How to get into pro rugby?

While Arnold technically did do 'roids, they weren't for muscle growth, he used them in the latter stages of comp preparation to preserve muscle,
Pro body builders drop down to dangerously low levels of body fat when they're going on stage, and it has effects on your muscles - back in the day pretty much all pro body builders used to juice just to preserve the muscles during this

I might not have done much research but my dad has and he says it is perfectly safe for me to do it. And I meant 4000 not 3000 calories

And again no offence but I will take my dads word over complete strangers.

well you did ask complete strangers for advice , so expect advice from complete strangers.

Yes I did ask for advice of complete strangers and yes I did get advice from complete strangers and no I won't take that advice from a complete stranger as that was not the advice I was after.

Then why ask for the advice if you already have your mind made up ?

As for your calorie intake unless you can work off 5000 calories its no use and you will get fat, my girlfriend is doing human nutrition and dietics and that level of intake for someone your age is not smart , indeed if I ate that I would be getting an earful.

Anyways muscle should be for looking at , not doing things :p

I never asked for advice about my calorie intake or If I should do stronglifts 5x5, I asked for advice about how to gain muscle mass.

Not taking sides but you can do waits early on in your teens once you've built your strength up to a certain level using body weight and core excerises. When rugby went pro the I.R.F.U. went over to America as American Football was the closed equivalent in professional sport. There they found out that the High School students were lifting more than the national team.

That is bull. Arnold used steroids all the time from when he was a teenager. It is frankly impossible to garner the sheer muscle mass that he had without some sort of illegal substance.

Arnold didn't have a ridiculous amount of muscle though, for a body builder:

He's always been really open when talking about steroid use as at the time they were legal, so he's got nothing to hide. He used them cumulatively about 2months out of the year (while cutting) to maintain muscle mass.

Ofcourse Arnie used Roids, what he didn't use what growth hormones. Coleman did/does(he still looked huge). But now BB's are just freaks, back in the golden era, Arnie/Zane etc. they were awesome.

I just think what coleman has done to his body is wrong, he has turned himself into a mutant imo, but of course it's up to him what he does

True it's not functional at all, next to just looking stupid IMO. And the most important thing of all 'ze ladies' don't like it....that big... that sounded awfull.

He was introduced to them by his soccer coach as a teenager, you just can't be 220 - 50 lbs of muscle naturally (before the supposed start of his cutting) and he didn't adhere strictly to 'bulking and cutting' he mostly grew into his size.If you look at him in the off season he's smaller than he is on stage, because he is an ectomorph. The reason Coleman is so much bigger than Arnie is due to advancements in illegal substances in particular HGH. Do you think if Arnie was born 40 years later he wouldn't be like Coleman or even bigger? Of course he would. There's also strong rumours of calf implants, which would explain why his calfs are still big.

Never said he did bulk and cut, but NO body builder in the world walks around at their stage weight as it's bad for your organs and your joints and your general health to be at the BF% they are on stage, hence them cutting down BF for when on stage
He was a competitive power lifter before becoming a body builder so that's where a lot of size and weight came from

It's possible to be big without juicing - Hell, rugby players are heavy: James Haskell walks around at 250lbs+ and is only 2inches taller than Arnie, and the amount of drugs test they take they don't use roids

Right, at the minuet I'm trying to increase my weight, I've started doing strong-lifts 5x5 and I'm eating around 3-5000 calories a day, By the time im 16 I want to be around 16-18 stone (14 now), Is that a good estimate for what I'm eating and doing now, or do I need to start eating more or something else? (by the way I want muscle mass not fat).

Nobody should have issues with you lifting weights at 14, like most things just be sensible about it. Just bare in mind that you will still be growing till about 18 - 20, but you might stop at 6'4 you just never know. At that height and 18 stone you are looking at playing prop at a high level. Just don't sacrifice speed and mobility for size.

Why do you want to hit about 18 stone or there abouts?, that is very big. Have you found a club yet or is it schools?.

To give you an idea I found these figures for you. Dylan Hartley 6'1 16st, Paul Doran Jones 6'2 18st, Danny Herriott 6'1 18st, Ethan Waller 5'11 17st.
This is just a quick selection of Saints front row forwards as you can see at 18st your looking at prop weight.

The locks come in a little lighter and taller.

So really think about where you want to play and what size you need to be, just because your a lock now does not mean you won't be a prop etc later on. I would concentrate more on general fitness and rugby skills more than bulking up. Get good then get the size would be my advice.

If you do go for county trials you may well only be going for one position so you need to be good at it, and there you will meet other locks and players of your size. It makes it more interesting then as your trying to play better than your team mates

Also, if you're 18st at 16 then your lifters are going to have their work cut out for them :p
