Heineken Cup P5: ASM Clermont vs Scarlets

Was in in France..............................!!

They have it down as 16:40 BST which unless I'm seriously mistaken means British Standard Time, so they're an hour off.

Priestland charged down again! Results in a penalty try from the scrum. Scrum looked ok to begin with, then the power came through from Clermont.

First one was very harsh, imo. Ruck for ASM, Hines makes the pass from the breakdown (playing SH) and Stoddard was "repositioning" himself in a way to disturb Cerlmont's attack. The ball came his way, so he took it and attacked. Definitely a penalty, but I don't think it deserved a yellow.

Second one, Sivivatu breaks away on the wing (stepping on the touchline, one might add) and after some crazy play he is brought to ground 2 metres away from the line by Stoddard. Then, Stoddard makes everything possible for the ball not to go out quickly. In particular, he positions his legs on Clermont's side of the ball (in a very unnatural way, and a few seconds after the tackle, no "inertia" here). Deserved yellow, definitely.

Scarlets have been playing some dodgy tactics all game. They keep the ASM players on the ground after the tackle so they can't rejoin the attack. They target Parra specifically, they did it to him at least two times, which slowed the ball exiting the breakdown the next phase. Plus, they were realy taking their time when Stoddard was on the bin, to take the lineouts for instance.

Penalty try as I type. Well given, in my view.

Scarlets will do very well to pick up a losing bonus point from this game. Gonna be very difficult down a man, and I wouldn't be surprised if the gap is quite substantial by the end of the game.

At least Priestland is getting his kicks over.

Edit. Another try for Clermont. Byrne this time. Game over!

All I was saying is KO WAS 16.40 in France..........incidentally, it is still shown as 15.40 on BBC Sports teletext.............

All over for Scarletts now so will concentrate on Exeter match which is looking close.....

Dull, for HEC matches, I use ESPNScrum for the K/O times.
It has them in GMT and your local time zone.

I agree with all that mon ami but cannot comment on first yellow as did not see it or its context......sounds from your comment that it could have been because of cumulative misdeeds and he copped for it?

Davies saves the scarlets conceding another try, great wrap tackle. But Clermont are running riot. Scrum to Clermont and the Scarlets will be under pressure again.

It was a bit early in the game for that I think.

Edit: not the best first play for Owens...

Damnit. Good decision from the ref, annoying lol.

Edit. Knoyle having a great game imo despite being on the losing side. Scarlets really should have scored a try a few mins ago, but a poor pass from Scott Williams went straight into touch.

Try for Clermont instead. Really missing Stoddart now. Always a man free on the outside.

Good game for Clermont overall, but they really need to start their matches in a better way, this is not the first time this season that they struggle in the first ten minutes.
The red card is anecdotic IMO, Clermont was superior and the result would have been the same with a smaller but still comfortable margin.

Good match from Clermont, even if the red card has helped them a lot. I always think that red cards are harsh and kill matches, sadly. But honestly, Clermont was better today.
