Heineken Cup 2013/14 Pool 4, Round 5 (Racing v Scarlets, Quins v Clermont)

Stuart Barnes: Clermont's scrum starting to look threatening..

*Clermont give up penalty next scrum*

Oh Barnes!

well yeah they looked really good on 2-3 straight scrums, but then overall they've struggled against the Quins' scrum.

You have to admit, Stuart Barnes is the kiss of death to any team. The moment he made a once in a lifetime change in his life and started being vaguely positive about England in the past Autumn Internationals, England's game fell apart!

EDIT: See? The minute Barnes shuts up Clermont start playing well again!

FURTHER EDIT: Also I have to say Clermont have one of the best French supporter contingents. They come in force and in full voice.

Not going well for Quins now :(

Edit: MOTM then ruins the key lineout heh.

sorry for the Harlequins. They're one formidable team, big respect to them, I don't like to know the teams I like are up against them. They've looked like the bigger team this match and it's detestable to see a dominant team with heart go down, no matter what side we're on.
Clermont played hard but were completely limited by the Quins, never could break away and run rampant as they usually do. Quins got a turnover like 9 out of 10 times, it was ridiculous.
Big win for Clermont, as it wasn't clear at all they'd get it.

As far as the quality of the match Rugby wise purely, it was alright. One half-lucky try each, and a lot of very good stretches of play but no conclusion, and both penalty kickers with spider's shhit in their eyes today...not a bad show for a Rugby enthusiast, but not exactly flamboyant.

Clermont once again show that a game lasts 80mins+, they played the 80 and came out winners probably the best team in Europe at the moment will be the same after Vern leaves and will this give the Scots something to shout about at last.

Oy vey. RM92 has not been a joy to watch. Hopefully they'll come together as an actual team sooner rather than later; Toulon has shown that a 'mercenary' team can play good rugby.

The crazy thing is it'll probably be a game like this Racing put their best display do season in

mmmm....I see what you're saying, but I don't even think that'll happen. Clermont aren't one of those teams that all of a sudden forget how to play, or stop playing with heart, or underestimate others. Racing will not benefit from a laid back Clermont attitude, it won't happen. And I don't even think RM92 has that sort of fiber in them that they won't go down easy and without a fight. They'll hold a bit, then crumble gradually...I'm guessing depending on selection they should lose this by a good 20.

that's right. I'm very critical of Toulon, but nobody can take away from them that they are a team. There are and have been plenty of examples, and not just in Rugby as a sport, of a superteam with big names all across the roster with bad results. Gotta credit Toulon for that.
