the RCT better react here and put a nice big azs score on Exeter. Criticism has been pretty bad for Toulon so far....

Wow! What a kick by Patchell! Not many teams have 1/2p in the side to take the 'short' penalties.

Well, this is not a great game, but if the score stays the same I'll be a happy Blues fan.

When I saw the night's propective viewing, I was not overly impressed but then, havng watched the first 10 of the other match (on the other thread!) I thought maybe, just maybe............I do not think I was wrong in my first thoughts, pretty non rugby really and it seems, from what I saw and your comment, that your game was pretty dull too!

When you consider the number of players out for the Blues, was no real surprise that Glasgow outplayed us. Difference was we have two guys in the team who can kick penalties from anywhere in the opposition half (and one who can kick them from inside our own 10).
Just need to get some players back before the Toulon game or it's going to be embarrassing with that scrum.

As echoed in the previous game, the number of injuries and players out for the Blues is astonishing. Considering Glasgow are near full strength, it is a fantastic win and took great guts. The Blues have lost something like the last 7/8 games in 3/4 years against Glasgow, with the near full strength side in the pro 12.

It was never going to be a pretty game at Scotsun. Glasgow tried the open game last week and paid for it dearly with sloppiness at the breakdown.

Blues need to beat Exeter at home, try get something in Toulon and hope Glasgow turn up against Toulon at Sctosun.

Patchell's penalty was good, turn it off afterwards and you haven't missed anything.

JUst watching it now - what a kick! I know it's not a record, but still. When a player makes a kick like that in American Football it makes the national news, like it's such an unusual thing. Makes me think we rugby fans are a bit spoiled by brilliant kicks. :)

The record afaik is Thorburns of 64m. Patchells must have been around 62, and certainly had the legs for a bit more.

Edit, didn't Steyn do one from 65m for Racing a few years back?

I was doing a bit of research on this (not sure about Steyn, was looking for the longest kick) and was stunned to learn that the longest authenticated penalty kick was made by Bridlington School's Ernie Cooper back in 1944 - 81 yards/74.06m! Blew me away to think someone could accurately kick a ball that far. I wonder if we'll ever see that in the modern, professional game.

Never heard of him, thanks for sharing.
Every club has legends of a player that could slot them from his own 22, I was always told of one at I think Cross Keys. Have to ask around. Mind you, it would have from his own 25 yard line, as this was going back some years ;)

...and with a heavy old leather ball!!

The one I remember is Don Clarke the All Black full back (in what the 1970's?) who with his old heavy leather boots and ball managed to kick one from his own half on a tour of the British isles - and I watched it on black and white tv I seem to remember?

And Giteau opens up Exeter beautifully in the 12th minute to give Smith one of the best tries for Toulon for a while.................

Great break from Nowell...........huge speed from standing start!!

.........and now a great try from Exeter............this could be some match!!

This is why I love Exeter, easily my favorite non Irish team. Exciting players and funny fans.
I'm a big fan of Arscott and Nowell, they constantly beat the first man. Still can't see Exeter lasting 80 minutes. They've shut up Toulon's fans wonderfully though.

by the end of the game though, the chiefs' 'chant' which they do non-stop all game becomes seriously world-wearying...
