scrap super rugby in world cup year. now that's a long winded competition.

There is a long time frame between the 6 Nations and the RWC, why wouldn't unions want time to see how they are going against the local international sides.
The southern hemisphere teams still play an abridged version of the RC right before the RWC and it keeps them battle hardened and ready for the challenge.
Did it stop those 4 sides from dominating the semi-finals?
I think not.
No 6 Nations could see the regularly competing teams going into the RWC soft...

I guess getting the NH back on track, competing more instead of less might be helpful.

I agree. 6N is nice entertainment and it's part of our culture. But let's face it. It does not make NH teams competitive for the WC. It's sub-standard to the RC and RWC

There's no doubt that the 6 Nations is not the ideal format to promote the teams competing getting to a higher level of competitiveness.
The structure is erratic and convoluted.
Better off dropping Italy into the second tier, making a 2nd division around Italy, Georgia and Romania with two other teams that are the best of the rest from that level.
Then let the top 5 teams go at it home and away until they finish and the bottom team gets relegated and the top team from tier 2 gets promoted.
This would provide a level of intensity the 6 Nations is lacking.

Think it could be s good idea, but ideally would like to see club comps finish in early March with 6N held in April May. If we all want to see open running rugby that is.

Why not scrap club matches, those pesky things that are the life blood of the game, and just have internationals?!!

Yes, a second tier would be better. However, home and away games would take up 8 weekends which is too much with the amount of rugby we have now.
Two home games and two away games would be the way to go and would indeed, raise the intensity.

I'd scrap league play-offs first, they're pointless. 22-26 games played home and away over the course of a season is enough to determine who the best team is in a league, two one off matches at the end of a season mean Jack ****. That and a RWC year 6nations format where Georgia and Romania are invited to take part and have two groups of four and a final after the domestic season is finished is what I'd have in a RWC year.

I think as things stand the 6N is an unwanted distraction in the middle of the business end of European and domestic competition, a different slot would regularize the situation and give test teams a chance to compete at the highest level in conditions they are likely to find during RWC.

It provides a good break from the intense league schedule we have here + Europe. We need the break. It's quite welcome to be honest.

In terms of the rugby on offer it really is a distraction indeed. Pure entertainment. Nothing that will make SH teams lose sleep.
