Ireland trio John Fogarty, Jamie Heaslip and Shane Horgan have been named in an enlarged 24-man panel with a team announcement now expected on Thursday lunchtime for the trip to Scotland which marks Leinster’s 300th game of the professional era. Meanwhile, Leinster are pleased to confirm the arrival of tight-head prop Ben Prescott who has joined the province from Nottingham until the end of the season and is also named in the squad.
The 32-year-old Irish qualified front-rower, who weighs 115kg and stands at 1.83m, was born in Libya, and was named on the National Division 1 Team of Year last season and previously played for Glasgow and Rotherham.

Leinster Manager Guy Easterby commented: “We are pleased to complete a deal for Ben and he will add further competition to the pack, especially in light of the unfortunate long-term injury to Stan Wright. Ben trained with the squad this week and we are confident that his experience and ability will be a welcome addition to the panel for the remainder of the season.â€

Looks like Schmidt thinks well of Sheridan, he's started him in every preseason, what kind of player is he Snoop?
If I was picking the team I'd go for...

15 Fitzgerald
14 Horgan
13 McFadden
12 Sheridan
11 Nacewa/Morris
10 Madigan/Nacewa
9 Boss
8 Heaslip (c)
7 O'Brien
6 Ryan
5 Hines
4 Galarza/O'Donoghue
3 Ross
2 Strauss
1 Van der Merwe

16 Fogarty
17 McGrath
18 Prescott
19 Galarza/O'Donoghue
20 Keogh
21 O'Donohue
22
23 O'Malley

Sheridan is a big basher of an inside centre in the mould of a James Downey, Kevin Maggs or Rob Henderson. At Clermont Auvergne Joe Schmidt tended to go for big physical backs who'd pummel opponents before swinging it wide (to even bigger men) so perhaps he likes Sheridan for this reason. To be honest, I wasn't impressed by him at u20 level for Ireland but perhaps he's rounded out his game.

The Leinster team to face the Glasgow Warriors in Friday night's Magners League opener at Firhill Stadium (KO: 7.05pm) has been named...
Sean O'Brien leads a Leinster side which includes summer signings Heinke van der Merwe, Ed O'Donoghue and Isaac Boss.
Jamie Heaslip forms a back-row partnership with O'Brien and Dominic Ryan, with Scotland international second-row Nathan Hines partnering O'Donoghue at second row.

Shane Horgan links up in an exciting back three with Luke Fitzgerald and Niall Morris. New signing Ben Prescott has been amongst the replacements alongside Ireland hooker John Fogarty.

Can't believe the Killer B's have disbanded. :(

Where have they gone too? they were great in last years 6n

Glasgow seem to have a substantial number of injuries going into the new season.

I am going to be relying on this thread for the in depth analysis of the game

We're probably going to get pasted up front. I've never been overly impressed by Strauss and Shawe is obviously not really up to this level, so the front row is pretty weak. The second row is ok, but not great, while the backrow has a fairly youthful look to it. I just hope we get to see Dominic Ryan destroy someone with a tackle as per ususal (and damn the consequences!).

The backs have a fairly raw look to them too. You could probably could on two hands the amount of full games Morris, McFadden and O'Malley have played. Luke is back from a massive injury but he's immediately being asked to perform as he's by far and away the most dangerous player in the back three. Nacewa at 10 is a bit of a gamble, never been impressed by him there. I hope Boss really imposes himself on his debut, were going to need as much experiance out there as possible.

The bench looks very average to me. I'm backing Glasgow in this one I think.

I'm pretty happy with that Leinster team. The back three has a good blend of youth and experience. The centre partnership showed promise last year but needs direction, hence the selection Nacewa and Boss at flyhalf and scrumhalf respectively. The frontrow is an unknown quantity- neither of the tightheads were on Leinster's books 10 days ago while the backup loosehead still has a lot to learn. The second row has the class of Hines and the graft of O'Donoghue. Dominic Ryan gets a chance to show what he can do alongside the explosive Heaslip and O'Brien- in his previous appearances he was thrown in at the deep end alongside a bunch of kids.

I'm looking forward to this. Glasgow have the more proven outside backs and probably the better front row too but Leinster may have the advantage from 4-10. It could come down to who kicks their penalties and conversions. This will be close but I think home advantage will see Glasgow home by less than 7 points.

If we do manage to grind out a result it'll be through raw physiicality. The backrow looks fairly intimidating to me, seriously those guys hit hard. We have some pretty big ball carriers in the backs too with Boss, Horgan and McFadden all being comfertable with taking it into contact.

A solid lineout could be key to how we go today so it's all eyes on Strauss for me. Heck, we're not going to beat them at scrum-time anyways.

How do we know this? I haven't seen Shawe play and am a bit sceptical as to how he and Prescott will do but I won't write either of them off as of yet. Shawe spent a few years on Ulster's squad and is an Ireland club international who has a decent reputation as a scrummager. Prescott was supposedly named in the Championship team of the year last season. At 32, Prescott has given up a contract in England for a 1 year deal across the Irish sea at Leinster. Both players clearly have a burning desire to make it and I'd rather that to a journeyman *cough* Owen Finegan *cough* who's more interested in picking up a pay packet than in playing.

I'm going to reserve judgement on these players until I've seen them play. If they can each last 40-50 minutes a game and hold up a scrum, that's good enough for me. Neither have signed to be regular starters but merely to be backup to Mike Ross and, when he returns, Stan Wright.

Kelly Brown left to Gloucester or something, the other two are still at Glasgow, but Beattie is out for a few more months and I don't know what injury Barclay has

Fools is trippin'. They know we is gonna be all up in their faces and they is scared dawg.

I think Leinsters squad is fairly good. Nice to see the players that had a long season and tough summer tour are getting some rest. Alot of youth in the team which is great to see and a powerful backrow.

Ridiculous yellow card. The ref was clearly terrified if Ryan.

Where's Brian O'Driscoll?

The majoriy of the players who toured with the Irish squads during the summer won't be back until the Munster game (most likely). The likes of Drico, D'arce, Healy, Jennings, Sexton and Kearney won't be back until then.
