Getting a PC or Laptop

yep

i have been advised - 1 gig of RAM, and atleast 100 gigs HD space

and if required - can get external HD

what about the processor, chip or whatever its called??

i see athion thingies, and dual core pentium farkers!!!

once this baby is up n running, x360 media centre and then down the track - BROADBAND LIVE X360, TO WHOOP ALL YA'LL IN BLIC, RUGGER2008, AND TRF BETTING BOOKIE

I WONT HAVE MUCH VIDEOS - just funny clips, and home videos from my camera

nothing like movies n stuff

it will be 80% music
15% photos
5% videos [/b]

AMD 64bit processors are the best.
AMD Athlon, Turion, Opteron...they'll all do the job for you. (steer clear of then Sempron...its AMD's version of Pentium's Celeron = **** performance...word processing and cd burning only lol)

yeah just avoid the low end amd or intel stuff should be right. most laptop or desktops these days come with something fairly beefy that will do the job nicely for you.

ok i have decided a laptop

now which one should i get

i have been recommended the Toshiba's

some deal we can get comes with Harmon Kardon speakers great screen Core Duo 2

but really thats another language - except i know Kardon audio is the ****
processor!!

Karon audio isnt a processor...I think you established that by yourself the line before by saying they were speakers :p

Toshiba's are great though!

Have you got your music programs yet?

yes i got fruityloops ready

just need something to put it in

i know they arent processors - the harmons - that word must have crept in on an edit i didnt delete the full kit-kaboodle

but again i know nothing about this stuff

just found out about RAM slots, and that u can upgrade the RAM by getting another slot disc/card or whatever

so a 512mb ram with a free slot, will suffice me thinks

can u plug in and stream an X360 to a laptop???

if so what do i need?

512mb with a free slot is good. If you fine 512 not enough you could just slip in another stick of 256 or 512, as 1024 (1gb) is becoming the norm.

I think you just connect your X360 to one of the USB2 ports on ur computer via the double ended USB2 cord i think?? Anyway here's all the information you need for X360 to Computer connectivity. Read them all :)

i have a dell, its pretty good. but it all depends on the model you get.

also i would go for 1gb at least, especially if it is coming with vista.

been told to wait for vista for the following reasons:

You don't have to upgrade to Vista. I wouldn't. A lot
of people don't use XP even. You will pay a lot
($3000-$4500) for a properly running Vista Laptop
because of the graphics card requirements. 1gb ram is
almost standard now, and cheap in PCs to upgrade. You
can get cheap laptops with Vista, but it's a dummed
down version of it without the graphic dependence
(aesthetic qualities) of the fuller version but all
the annoying license and program authority and
security checks of Vista. Stick with XP and something
cheaper.

so at the moment vista is off the cards

however i just went and checked some stores, and 90% of them are vista, so it seems finding a cheap xp enabled laptop could be tough

Get XP Pro SP2 (Service Pack 2 - you need SP2 for X360 compatibility). Its cheap if you can find it.

I could "find" it :)

But if you want it 100% legit, then shop around. Go to eBay even.

It won't be too hard to find at all. Plus with SP2 it will be compatible with your X360. There is no real need for Vista unless you want visual diarrhoea. Vista really is just a more user friendly interface for media buffs. But it sucks for performance from the computer. I'm sticking with with XP Pro.

Search ebay for XP Pro...you can get it for less than $200
