Georgian Rugby

Are Georgia now on the threshold of becoming a tier one rugby country?
They are well placed to finish third in their pool at this RWC so is this the time when Georgia rugby Union ascends to tier one with automatic qualification to the next RWC?

Yes, Georgia has qualified for the next World Cup.

They succeeded.

In Georgia, they are now heroes, see how they are met in Tbilisi.

Do they have an aversion to smiling? Hardly any of them had a smile and a wave for the crowd.

Good to see the support turning up for them. What's wrong with Russia Vlad? no interest in the game?

Unfortunately, in Russia there is no interest in rugby.

More precisely interest is growing, but very slowly.

If China we will select the Krasnoyarsk rugby in Russia die completely)))

Only in Krasnoyarsk has an interest in rugby.

In the Soviet Union developed the rugby, the national team won against Italy and the second French team.

But with the collapse of the USSR rugby it develops only in Georgia.

In 1993, Russia beat Georgia for the last time.

I think that it is necessary to declare war on New Zealand, then to capitulate on condition of administration of the occupation forces.

Maybe they will teach us to play?;)

I think you guys need an Eastern European 5 Nations to generate interest.

The Georgian RFU need to push for more realistic games so to push on the improvements made recently. Playing Italy, Scotland etc on a regular basis. Maybe a regular Romania match and invite one of the South sea's nations over like Tonga, Samoa, even a short tour of the pacific islands. Its going to take time and I would not expect a vast improvement in 4 years probably look to re qualify for the 2023 world cup, by then the impressive U18/20 team will be the main stay of the 1st team. This is an important period for Georgia and Romania and their respective associations need to on the ball and demand improvement and assistance in moving forward.

Why isn´t there any georgian team at the Challenge Cup Qualifying Tournament? There are teams from Germany and Belgium but none from Georgia

But would Georgia be worse than Portugal? There is a portuguese team, I know World Rugby prefers to support rugby in rich countries with no tradition in rugby whatsoever, there are lots of examples in every continent, but I don´t think, maybe I am wrong, that Georgia is worse than Portugal

Believe me, they are much worse and poorer than Portugal.

But this is probably the only country in Europe where rugby - sports number 1.

They did take part in the qualifiers last year with a team named Tbilisi Caucasians, a select side with the best players from all the Georgian domestic clubs. They were beaten both home and away by Italian club Rovigo and failed to qualify. I guess their union decided it wasn't worth the cost to try again this year, due to Georgia's location travel costs a bit extra.

Also, World Rugby doesn't fund club competitions. Clubs that play in these qualifiers do it from either their own funds or are supported by their unions.

Georgians are sending young players and coaches abroad for an internship.

Their strategy is not that that would create a strong championship of Georgia, and that would send a player to play in a strong league abroad.

The national team of Georgia is a showcase for who hid naked ass.

By the way the Russian rugby site no congratulations from the Georgians "Yenisei" I also always tell them in return ...
