Gavin Henson

at the risk of reviving a dead argument, I'd like to add my 2+ cents on Mr. Henson...

His meteoric rise and fall coincide with my following of rugby, so I've seen some liturature by and about the guy, and while there are alot of negatives (play post 05 6nations, his book, the lions tour, and his high profile life and romance, rampant vanity and arrogance), alot can be equated to the fact that he is still a very young guy, and when alot of young people are thrust into a spotlight, they sometimes lose sight and focus on what gave them the life they lead.

Gavin has obviously lost a bit of focus, as would alot of you young fellers if you were in his position. That isn't an excuse, because rugby (and sports in general) have several examples of young guys who have risen to the challenges of the level in which they play (Wilkenson, O'Driscoll, Derek Jeter, Tom Brady), so Gav doesn't (and shouldn't) get a free pass. However, it remains to be seen if he can actualy grow up (for lack of better term) and represent his teams (club and international) as his predecesors have.

However, the arguement that "He's honest, what is wrong with that?" holds no water, because while being honest is one of the most admirable (and dying) qualities a person can possess, that honesty must be tempered with the understanding that being publicly honest is sometimes to the detriment of the other members of the squad, who bust their asses to get to the level they play at. Therefore, I wouldn't charictarize Gavin as an "honest" bloke, but more as a "selfish" bloke. Again, with maturity, this may change. The comments he has made publicly were sometimes to the detriment of his team, which in a team sport is unacceptble. This is reenforced subtly in his shoe selection.

You ask: "what's the big deal about the shoes?"
I reply: "The fancy boots are another way to separate himself from the team. Get it?"

Secondly, he wears "tan-in-a-can", which is unacceptable for any man other than a roided out pro-rassler in pink tights

In closing, I think his selection into the wall of shame may be a bit early still, but in the grand scheme of things it isn't a big deal to begin with.

Thanks for letting an old(er) american noob give his (my) thoughts.

he stinks
Compelling.[/b]
I was moved.

Anyway, here's my 2 cents on why Henson isn't as bad as everyone makes out (well kind of)
I don't understand where people see Henson as arrogant? He's a confidence player, If he was arrogant, He would of dumped Tait twice on his arse & made a smug look after he done it & when they talked to him after the game, he wouldn't of said that Tait is probably gonna do the same thing to him the next time they meet.

And he is a vital player to our team (at 12). He offers great kicking options (on form), plus straighter running game. Since he been out, all our attacking options has been to spread it wide alot of the time with no variation at all.

I do agree though, that since he been with Charlotte Church, he's been more interested in enjoying himself outside the game, rather than concentrating on his rugby.

Well thats what I feel about Henson...we'll I could gone on and on but I'll leave it for that for now. I don't think that my statement was biased, although its not for me to decide.

Now have a :bana: on me.

Spencer would **** all over Henson. His only flaw is that he doesn't have the most consistent kicking game for a 10.

His running game dumps all over Henson's crabbing across the pitch though.

Lol must admit I've never actually seen Henson play other than the game for Lions vs Southland where he looked alright, based that purely on what has been said about him, and the general reaction to him reminded me of how Spencer was treated at times while in NZ (if you couldn't pick it --> fan of King Carlos)

David is saying this as he is a white guy who has black hair, often styled into a Henson-like do (usually a spiked pointed fringe). :p He plays in mid-field (like Henson) and is a utility (like Henson). I have often thought he was gay (like Henson) (jokes). :p Although Dave's gayness can be counted on a scale of 1 to 10, (unlike Henson).

He has a hit and miss goal-kicking record (like Henson). :bravo:

His girlfriend has big eyes and is involved with music (like Henson).

To spite you all, I believe that Gavin Henson is the greatest rugby player in history. He is fast, skillful, tough and scary to his opposition.
I also find him charming, sexy and it must be a chore for all the other Welsh boyo's to stop themselves going homosexual in his presence.
In short they should write the story of his life, called "The Bible Part 2 - Henny Returns".

Bow to him, mortals.
