France fined $15,000 for haka advance

Might as well quote myself again because people are still trying to have a dig at New Zealand(ers) over this when it's not us that have the problem with the French advance.

You think people are going to even pay attention to the reality when they could have a go at NZers and the haka instead? Good luck.

IRB should rather fine some referees fo their awful display IMO, that would be more productive...
Anyways The All Blacks closed gallantly the point themselves by saying that they didn't comply with that IRB's decision.

Do you truly believe that when the All Blacks perform that throat slitting action, they have genuine intent to kill the opposition? Come off it, seriously.

Do you truly believe when I raise my 3d finger up, I have genuine intent to...well what would you think in fact ?:D

No. thats why i dont freak out and file rape claims about people who flip me off and its also why people shouldnt worry about 'death threats' i a haka.

They're about to play a game of rugby. Unless they are very idiotic potential murderers, I doubt the All Blacks are going to attempt to kill opposition players in front of an audience of millions. All I was trying to point out with the point you picked out is that acting as though the throat slitting action is a genuine death threat or show of intent to kill is silly.

You're free to flip me off if you'd like, as long as you understand the point I'm making in regards to the All Blacks.

Jesus Christ, i lost my portfolio yesterday.:(
Can you do something for me?

Of course it is silly, and when I raise my finger up who thinks I'm gonna put it in his ass ?
It's just as sign of disrespect.
For nearly the whole world the all black sign is very agressive and the all blacks know that.
Please, bring us back the Ka Mate.

Next time we will have our own Haka, it's a bit long but never mind you can do it so do we.

And we also have a trash one , a bit ridiculous isn't it ?

Well, Ka Mate is still used by the All Blacks in a majority of tests. The fact that Ka Mate is actually only representing one Maori tribe in Ngāti Toa probably means very little to you though.

Ka Mate is a much better haka than Kapo o Panga, builds up and everything.

The fact that it technically only represents one tribe is neither here nor there - it is the the traditional All Blacks haka that most people have grown up with, it's now a lot bigger than just one tribe, it represents NZ.

Its not just only representing one tribe, but its directly offensive to a bunch of other ones. **** haka, should never have been the All Blacks preferred in the first place, kapa o pango is much better

I completely disagree. Kapo O Pango means far more to me as it actually relates to the All Blacks. I would hate to see Ka Mate disappear though. It may not be my favorite haka but does still have its own history.

TBH, this whole affair with the fine for crossing the line is just a storm in a teacup, and is no more than a token gesture; a slap on the wrist with a wet bus ticket.

Its £2,500. Even if they split that between just the players in the squad, its £84.00 each. On the salaries these guys are on, that's parking meter money.

I stood up and cheered when the French stepped up to the Haka, and I LOVE the Haka.

Having read through the full chain, some thoughts.

1. I agree it was a great moment of theatre when the French walked up to the Haka.
2. The fine is just ridiculous.
3. Actually at first when the French joined hands it looked seriously naff, it was only when they started walking that the hairs stood up.

4. The claims about the historical link between the haka and rugby are a little spurious. If you look back to the 70s, it was only ever done on tour, and then in a really naff way by predominately ethnically European players who looked deeply embarassed.
The haka as we know it dates back to 1987, when Buck Shelford persauded the team to do it in the first RWC and to do it seriously with the expressed intent of intimidating other teams. That is not making something up, there was a documentary on ITV during the RWC where the man himself said it.

So. Defend the haka as great theatre, and defend it as something which teams with Balls would stand up to (I myself loved the Richard Cockerill and Willie Anderson versions), but please don't defend it on account of the long historical association or try to claim it isn't an attempt to intimidate.
