In honour of @Welsh Exile seeing the Lion King with his family and everyone commenting on it and their favourite or least one.

My favourites on stage I have seen:

Saturday Night Fever
Jersey Boys
Avenue Q

Sure there are more.

On TV/films:

Chicago
Les Mis - didn’t like it on stage because i didn’t understand it but then watched the film version
Oliver!

Sure there are others but won’t admit to it for fear of being chastised. 🤔

What are yours?

Top three

Hamilton
Hadestown
Les Miserables

Most visceral reaction was not being able to applaud the first act of Caberet. It was superb but there is no way I could applaud "Tomorrow Belings To Me". I felt bad not applauding the performance my wife did applaud and felt bad applauding that song. In my mind thats theatre working well.

My favourites are:
Phantom of the Opera (already explained why in the political thread)
Also liked the Cats

And that's it. Chickago was ok but nothing special. Mamma mia... can't stand it at all🤮 and don't like musicals in general

Oh, didn't know there's one for Cabaret! I love the film very much
Also I haven't seen Les Misérables (and it was also one of my favourite books when I was a child/teenager,same as "The Phantom of the Opera")

Its the most in topic we've been in weeks! The staging for Chicago is very diffrent from the film which made the film a little disappointing.

Not watched the stage version but heard it’s cracking. Just liked the songs in the film version and the whole period, and ladies killing for fame/infamy and then using crooked lawyer to get out it. Pretty much sums up that dark side of America.

Any Lloyd Webber, especially Joseph, which I grew up with, Cats and Phantom

Oklahoma
West side story
Singing in the rain
Chicago

All of the above I've seen in the West End.

On film, all of the above plus

Seven brides for seven brothers
Rocky Horror
First mamma Mia, I again grew up with abba, would have been better without Meryl streep

Going to musicals is something I do to please the woman in my life. It reminds me of going to a church service. I count down the hymns/songs until the whole goddamn experience is over.

Do like the Disney ones. Watch them with my daughter

Ditto, I'll catch fire if I step foot in a church.

Back on topic my sister swears by Cats and Starlight Express as being awesome. Not sure trains are my thing, but i like some of the Ts Elliot Cats poems.

Ones I like that haven't been mentioned so far; Blues Brothers, Little Shop of Horrors and more recently I thought Emilia Perez worked which surprised me.

Cats were good as far as I remember. Watched it many many years ago in Russian language, beautiful music and words but the musical is a bit boring to watch at some moments

Been married twice.....
Ah,I see. Both times church marriage? I thought it's possible only if you're Orthodox (you can have a church divorce there as well),but if you're Catholic you can have a church marriage only once🤔
