Exeter chiefs 2017/18 season thread. Chance to top the premiership.

I see us signing cuthbert as bath signing jamie roberts, i dont rate him very highly. Hope he proves me wrong but not sure about this one.

Cordero hasnt been starting because he hasnt found his form with the way chiefs play, given a full pre season with them he will come good and be a starter.

Woodburn is the annoying one for me, he has been on shocking form recently yet at the start of the season he was playing well and hard to drop from the starting line up.

Back 3
Woodburn
Nowell
Cordero

Cuthbert
Short
Dollmen (as someone said turner is going)

Pretty much all different kinds of players here, nowell workrate woodburn just am all rounder cordero has a great step amd quick cuthburt quite powerful runner short very quick a real finisher dollmen a good fb but i think he doesnt pass enough when its on.

Good to have different weapons tbh but still notnsure about cuthbert.

Unless Cordero is being signed on for next season and is going to be used as a FB then the Cuthbert signing really doesn't make sense. Woodburn, Nowell and Short are all quality wingers but we lack a top notch fullback. Dollman's fine. A team that have stated they're looking to win the Champions Cup shouldn't settle for having players in key positions that are fine. Would've much rather seen us go in for a quality FB.

Give us a name? realistic target..

If Cordero stays...

15 Cordero
14 Cuthbert
13 Nowell
12 Hill
11 Woodburn

22 Slade
23 Short/Campagnaro

I don't think Cuthbert's the dud he's made out to be, he's gone stale and has zero confidence BUT IF he can be coached and embrace the move, the area and the philosophy then he has the talent...

Well... Cordero for one. I'd be very happy to see him re-signed but it's really not looking like it's going to happen. Beyond that I'm not sure, I don't really know who's up for grabs at the end of the season. But I'm sure that there are fullbacks we could get a hold of that are better than Dollman.

Having a look around Cordero seem's the best bet, a lot have re-signed elsewhere Tom Marshall, Rob Miller among those and the grade A names are being offered a fortune, Hogg linked to France for 600k - 800k recently...

Wonder what Matteo Minozzi's contract status is?

Cordero has to be looked at as a FB, if he and baxter agree on that and give him a full pre season there as first choice then i think he'd look to stay with chiefs over other clubs.

Be surprised if wasps arent looking at him he could fit how they play very well (NOT A RUMOUR, JUST A THOUGHT)

Next season

White
Simmonds
Woodburn
Slade
Nowell
Cordero

Maunder/Townsend fighting it out.
Steeno/Devoto
Short/Cuthbert

Nit the quickest but still see nowell as a winger. Yet to be convince about him at 13 but not against it.

I'd love to see him at Chiefs.

I remember a while ago there was that page circulating that ranked the highest paid positions in both the Prem and the Pro 14 and I seem to remember 15 being very high up on both. Buying in quality at FB is very expensive, as you said Hogg at 600k-800k and wasn't Piutau's Bristol contract rumoured to be upwards of 1Mil? So I imagine getting to them before they really hit top form is pretty important.

Malins at Sarries may well be worth targeting. Stuck behind Faz and Loz at 10 and Goode and Williams/Maitland at FB. Unfortunately think he re-signed for them last year but he is serious quality, it may be worth trying to buy out his contract. Would be good to have more 10 cover as well, only having 2 and one of them a 33 year-old isn't ideal.

You're talking about signing a top 10 FB in the world though.
You don't need a top 10 FB to win the champions cup.
I assume you're referring to Minozzi? I'm not suggesting we're going to sign Minozzi, I'd just be very happy if we did. Cordero and Malins are my more realistic suggestions.

I agree malins could be a great signing but i doubt sarries would let him go, i dont think we need to make a big money deal for another FB for 2 seasons when we could get a young player with potential(preferably england qualified) who will have a career at chiefs for many seasons.

Well if Bath keeps playing like they are, Watson might fancy a move end of next season.
A realistic more long term potential player Jamie Shillcock at wuss who i think has alot of potential.

Jesse Mogg is rumoured to be leaving Montpelier next season.

Don't know of anyone coming up through the academy that's making particularly large waves.

On another note, what are we going to do about number 8? Waldrom and Horstmann both gone next season. AFAIK Salvi hasn't re-signed meaning that in the back row next season we'll only have Armand, Ewers, Simmonds, Kvesic (none of which are specialist 8s) as well as Lawday, Freeman and Wright who aren't really Prem quality. Tuima's looking good at 8 in the academy but he's 18; I'd have a thought he's got a good 2-3 years before he can be considered as a genuine option in the Prem. Hopefully we'll bring someone in prior to that. Suggestions?

If he is to move I'd have thought Chiefs would be pretty close to the top of the list we've got a lot of his U20 teammates who he seems very close to. That said, can't see him leaving Bath.

If Bath are still playing like they are I wouldn't be surprised, can't see him wanting to be out of the champions cup for potentially 2 years if they do.
