England XV vs Barbarians (19/06/2022)

Quite disappointed in that team, too many experienced players for an essentially free hit and using the game to get some match fitness into players who shouldn't even be in the squad (May/Nowell/Lawes should have had the summer off).

What are we going to learn from starting Curry/Underhill? May and Coka on the wings? If this in an indicator that May/Nowell are in the frame to start against Australia then it's just perplexing, we've had the same bunch of wingers since 2015 pretty much.

Ewels and J Hill with no rugby behind him potentially has to be the worst Eng lock pairing in living memory. Could really get shown up by Kruis and Skelton.

Otherwise it's a non game so can't get too excited either way. Do like the look of Freeman though. Shame Earl's not available for this.

PS Earlier posts on Kruis I know it was totally his call, I just meant that Jones should try to move heaven and earth to try persuade him that he'd like to do another year.

On Curry/Underhill i dont mind, been a while since they both played together but my preference would have been Willis Curry but im happy Willis is in there so doesnt bother me.

When we have Steward back that means Freeman on 1 wing and maybe Malins back on the other or Big Joe.....or EJ will bring back Daly and have May Daly Nowell.....experienced back 3 lads!:D;)

Or maybe look at Tizard who looks like Kruis Mark II

Not sure Kruis and Tizard are that similar, (I'd compare him more to a young Launchbury), but I'm surprised (and disappointed) he wasn't called up for this. He definitely looks like an England lock in the making and IMO is already comfortably better than Ewels.

Like Old Hooker, I know the situation with Kruis but I kind of hope he has an about turn in the next year and comes back for one last mission, John Matrix style.

Was reading on the other site it was reported that Arundell was due for selection but pulled out with ****le.

Needs confirming, but would've been really interesting to see.

Maybe was going to be 11 big joe, 14 Freeman 15 Arendall 23 nowell/may

Still can't work out what ****le is supposed to be. All the naughty words don't make a new word there.

Obviously Mumbles created a portmanteau from the words "wounded" and "ankle".

I just can't see this England team winning. Imagine trying to communicate in a team with four Jack's, two Joe's, two Jonny's and a fly-half and inside centre both called Mark/cus. It's going to be mayhem.

Well possibly yes, but either way the lad should have been looked at in this squad and game. Ewells is just not good enough for this level.

I just worry that Jones is putting so much hope in his old guard who are injury prone, out of form and unfit and reluctant to back the new kids.

As an England fan I hope it comes off fir him but I'm very sceptical

I don't think that at all. Perhaps you could class May as the 'old guard', but that's it really? As I said earlier, I have more of an issue with Cokanasiga's selection than May's.

I would have liked to have seen Ted Hill get a shot, but I'd argue the 3 flankers he's picked are our best 3.

If Ewels is in the side on tour, I'll be hacked off, but I'm not massively worried that he's starting in a squad with 2 full time locks in it for a non-cap fixture.
