England v Italy

We need to find a way of removing height from Sheridan. Ejector seats compress your spine don't they? We could send him up in a fighter jet and eject him.

His height hasn't been an issue in the past and he has managed to surmount the height issue to absolutely obliterate opposition in the past.

The fact is that he was outwitted along with the rest of the England front row last Autumn. Australia played the referee and were genereally far more smarter. Their scrummaging ability hasn't magically gotten better all of a sudden since summer 2007, they just know how to work the ref. When the ref wants to see a genuine scrummaging contest like during South Africa's (dead rubber) demolition of Australia during the Tri-Nations, you saw the South African front row dismantle Australia with glee. Also note that the likes of Italy had absolutely no time for the complicated smoke and mirrors set up that Australia deploy at the scrum and never gave them the chance to do it. Again, Italy absolutely pwned Australia at the scrum last Autumn.

Bottom line is that Australia are still rubbish at the scrum, they've just gotten much much better at disguising it. Their chickens will come home to roost, mark my words...

The problems therefore are all in Sheridans head. He needs confidence as well as the understanding that he cannot go AWOL during a game like he has way too many times before.

Sheridan is a loosehead. Vickery is a tighthead.[/b]

Sorry, I was very tired last night after coming back from my shift but now you've pointed that out I'll make sure I'll incorrectly place Sherri and Vickery in the wrong positions every time now!

A bit off topic, but concerning the french selection policy.

Lievremont made it clear that the experiment are over. He has got his group of players, and will try to stick to them, knowing that injuries are bound to happen. The pack is pretty much the same than the AI's one. Possible inclusions in the future could be Bonnaire coming back.

He also said that having one set of halves and stick to it would be a bad idea considering the amount of injuries that are likely to happen, specially with injury prone players like Elissalde, Michalak and Beauxis.
The halves are: Tillous-Bordes Parra Elissalde, Beauxis Trinh-Duc Skrela

The remainig 23 games will NOT be used to experiment ( maybe a translation probleme here Pres) but to give all the players in the group significant game time, in order to have everybody at the same level. Having a bench as good as the rest and slotting easily without disturbing the team cohesion is very important.

What a load of tripe. Both games you mention happened to be the ones where Australia fielded experimental/second string front rows. In Jo'Burg we capped a new hooker in TPN, and put Dunning on ( he doesn't need an intoduction does he?). Against Italy we also fielded Matt the Fat along with another prop (Alexander) who had not even played a full 80 of super-let alone international rugby, and this against a world class pack.

No one is saying Australia is now on equal footing with the likes of South Africa, NZ or France up front, that's blatantly apparent, we all know we have a while to go. Yet to state that the Wallaby front three's dominant display against England may be explained solely by deception is sour grapes, wilful blindness or maybe a bit of both.

No, the bottom line is this. All of us heard that crap along with references to being served a dose of Marseille Mash before the Autumn internationals, it didn't happen. I'm not kidding myself, i'm well aware that England have the potential to give us a hiding up front, but it's obvious that in their current state they don't have a hope in hades if they just turn up expecting to win the set pieces. If they adopt your arrogant assumptions that the Australian pack is still dog **** they'll get another hiding, mark my words...

Well, the Australian pack's scrummaging was much improved by having Stephen Moore there with his improved scrummaging.

But in the first half England were pushing Australia back still, and we weren't getting the penalties we deserved from it. Also, scrum dominance means you keep the back rows bound in for as long as possible, and the likes of George Smith were allowed to break off the scrum long before the ball was out.

England's scrum is potentially good; but because Sheridan has no technique he blows hot + cold depending on who he's up against. But really and truly, the game last autumn was supposedly an Aussie front row 'renaissance' when in fact the scrums were just badly referreed (like most of the scrums in all of the AIs) and England out-cunninged.

They're still a poor front row, and they'll be found out one of these days by a big agressive scrummaging team like Italy, England, Argentina or potentially France or SA or even Scotland.

Fixed.

Can't wait to see Mauro at 9. It's kind of like putting Census Johnston at fullback.

Don't have fox sports and also do not want to be stabbed on the way to one of the few bogan pubs that will show this game. Refresh button will have to suffice.

According to RTE, Armitage (FB) and Nick Kennedy are the daecent future of English rugby.

Are those stats correct? cant believe the Italian back 3 have 39 tries between them, they certainly dont score them in the 6 nations..

Whoah!

Lawrence Dallaglio just admitted that James Haskell is under pressure for his place!

I think a hole has just been ripped in the space/time continuum.

Robbed... It was a knock on. Italians were gonna win. Knock on, it was a knock on, The italians have been robbed.

picking Goode pays off, that kick would have been blocked if it was Cipriani.
