England EPS 2017/18 edition.

Nowell wouldn't win it that's for sure

Nowell is not the fastest but he's hardly slow. His strong point is being an elusive runner in tight spaces and work rate rather than out and out pace. Jason Robinson also wasn't actually that fast in a straight sprint compared to some other wingers.

Are you ok?

Can see what he's getting at, any one remember Howlett absolutely smoking Robinson? Over 20m Robinson was rapid, but beyond that he wasn't near the quickest sprinter.

This one?

IMO Robsinon has to make at around 10m on Howlett both run an angled line. Would also point out that Howeltt is pretty damn quick aswell.

god the comments on that video are hilarious. Esp when Varndell is the best winger ever.

Either way not sure why Nowell is being compared to Robinson in any way both completely different players.

That's the one.

True, just saying that I think it was more his agility and acceleration over his out and out speed. I actually rate Nowell, his running style makes him look slow but he can probably shift pretty well. For me he needs to be on a wing with Watson and May making up the back three.

Does positioning himself differently, to make up for not being a 10 second 100m sprinter, leave him susceptible in other ways?

Robinson was rapid. Not THE quickest. But way up there. I think there's a few 7's and hookers out there who are quicker than Nowell.

Cueto was ****, and a great example of the sort of player who was around during England's turgid years following 2003.

Nowell is awesome.

Cueto had a better strike rate for club and country than Nowell has

Only really **** players get to be top try scorer in Premiership history (....for like 2years) though

Robinson was about the quickest over 5m I can think of, which is quite a weapon to have.

100m times aren't that important, how often does any rugby player sprint 100m. Even an interception on their own line, if they're quick over 60 they can usually coast 40.

Going back a couple of pages, since everyone's given their opinion in Clifford ... to me he will not be an international player until he starts getting decently more involved in defence. He's been practically invisible there

Pretty sure Cueto scored at least one on the 2005 tour.

I'm a huge Nowell fan anyway, me comparing him to Cueto isn't an insult.
Neither are the fastest or most agile in the world but have huge work rates, solid defence and read the game so well/run such smart lines. Also really hard to put down.

Wingers ain't all about pace, and with JJ, Daly, May and Watson we have more than enough pace to have a player like Nowell, who's work rate is fantastic and carrying in tight areas is also rather good. Sometimes you have a player who brings something different, which in turn offers up more to the players around him, or on his shoulder. He's going to give us front foot ball.

To summarise. Jack Nowell is good, and if he's in the 15 or 23 for the next 6/7 years at his current ability I would have no complaints!

Brown out? Watson in or is he going to be rested
For me pace is the most important for defence so chasing many times I've seen nowell coasting coz he can't catch them
Were as the likes of may saves a trys

Anyone remember last 6 Nations when Nowell back about 70 metres from the opposite wing to stop the Henshaw try? Or in the Prem semi-final last season when he tackled Vunipola in midfield on the halfway line to then get back up and beat Wyles to the try line? I'm not going to deny that Nowell's pace can be an issue in defence but he definitely saves tries.
