England 2024/25

seem to remember Itoje looking pretty average after the last Lions tour, think burnout is a legitimate thing but how many players play for a team that make it to knock out games, play for country and lions, although Sarries didn't progress as far this time so maybe a different thing.

By the time Itoje gets back from NZ he'll have been on the treadmill for a year solid when taking RWC initial camps into consideration. He must already be bored shitless of rugby. And then….

Premiership final's on 14th June next year. Lions tour starts a couple of weeks later and goes into August. It's nuts.

Players will miss games here and there but few of the elite will really get the extended time off they properly need to recharge and perform at the levels they're truly capable of.

It's a shame because on the other side the French are openly discussing touring NZ next year without 20 players in order to give them the rest that they need, Wales have opted to rest a few key players like Will Rowlands for their tour against the world champs, and even though it's a tier 2 tour Scotland have rested Finn and a few others. Player welfare is largely an illusion in England sadly
 

Pretty mad stats, especially as both (and Cobus) spent periods out injured

Really hope Ben gets a shot vs Japan - suppose it depends how many finals players they rest
CCS/Curry/Dombrandt could be very fun, but maybe more the kind of backrow you'd put out vs Barbarians or something

Thing that shocks me most about that is González at 3rd. I knew he was a brilliant attacking player but I'd have said his weakness was maybe that he wasn't quite physical enough. Turns out he is just an incredible all-rounder.

Tbh i dont care if we take him or not, would rather better cooperation between club an country throughout the season. Playing all them minutes and knowing the limit....did henot ask to be rested or did they not care about his internstional career?
 
I would complain on the basis that the RFU claim to care about player welfare, then pick him.

If they cared they would rest him but they don't care, so they are liars.
 
I definitely wouldn't complain if we rested Itoje and Curry. I feel it would be more beneficial long term. It would also give other players an opportunity. I wonder if Chessum had been fit if he'd have brought Itoje...maybe there is just too little experience in the second row.

That was my thought - ironically, after all these years, we've got a few tighthead locks but Itoje the only loosehead lock with experience
Maybe Coles gets the start vs Japan and they go from there

Where's it measured from? If he's catching it deep and running half the pitch, then that might be some of it.

true although 4 of those 13 games also came from wing

but even then it goes what people say about him as a attacking option, considering he isn't kicking if the case.


I feel like if it was quite that simple pretty much only 15 would be on the list
 
Metres made, especially for a back, is a pretty blunt instrument though. Tells only part of the story at best, but doesn't say anything about decision making. No point ploughing 35m into traffic when the right option was to pass after 10m to a faster man in space.
 
Four games seems high, has he previous or is it because he disputed the card being red?

He admitted the charge of foul play but disputed that it warranted a red card. The committee obviously didn't agree.

Not sure how he could have disputed it tbh. You need to really show it was a clearly wrong decision to have any hope and it's not worth it, even for marginal things. Bit stupid of him really.
 
He was claiming that the dip was late and significant.
He also has previous for thesame offence , which is why he doesn't get any reduction.
