2023-2024 transfers

With Shillcock going I'm hoping we can lure Bailey or Barton

Bath have a top line XV but behind it's pretty much academy. Bath got extremely lucky with London Irish, Wasps and Worcester going. Bath's most loaded position seems to be Back Row which tbf is filled in depth with players who can through their system like Bayliss and Reid

OI feel generally Bath main success is they have a deep back row and have done pretty well on injuries on the most part

Like what is Bath's second choice XV like next season currently?
1. Van Wyk, 2. Frost, 3. Stuart
4. Molony, 5. Richards
6. Bayliss, 7. Staddon, 8. Reid
9. VDL, 10. Bailey
12. Ojomoh, 13. Butt
11. Muir, 14. Emens, 15. TDG

It's not that far off outside of Stuart there performing names are all academy products

Don't expect them just yet, departures tend to be announced at the new club's convenience, or after the last match is simply released.
Also bear in mind, we've lost Du Plessis and Grace mid-season.

On top of those two, I expect us to lose Annett, Faiva, Schreuder, McConnochie; and probably Coetzee.
Others at risk, either this year or next, look like being:
Stewart, Spandler, Cordwell, Cuckson, Staddon
Le Roux, Butt, Cokanasiga, Emens

Other youngsters we may lose for various reasons:
Bailey (too good to be 3rd choice, may wait for Russell to move on, will probably leave if he re-signs), Harris (too good to be 3rd choice, injury prone), Hennessey (Wales will come calling at some point), DeGlanville (doesn't seem to be rated by JvG, might be happy to stay 2nd choice if Bath are winning trophies).

Putting that together:
Arundell <=> Grace - probably not too far off in terms of salary demands. You could make an argument for both that they're worth more than the other.
Van Der Linde <=> Schreuder - definitely leaves us some cash in hand.
Frost <=> Annett - probably not too far off in terms of salary demands.
Nobody <=> Du Plessis - perfectly respectable amount of cash in hand.
Nobody <=> Faiva - large amount of cash in hand.
Carreras <=> McConnochie - would likely take all of Faiva's and Du Plessis' money as well. Do that, and the salaries won't be too far off, maybe even a little in profit (combining 3 salaries into 1).

Of course, we don't know if there are any other incomings at the moment; but all 3 strong rumours have already come through.

Obviously, Rinkadink will disagree on principle, Olly will probably disagree, but also probably tongue in cheek.

He'll be a wing, almost certainly replacing Cokanasiga (whether this year or with an eye to next summer)

No way Arundell will be on the same salary as Grace lol I'm sorry but you need to be living on a different planet if you think a league player coming off the back of a massively serious injury is gonna be anywhere near Arundell. Grace played zero rugby for Racing before signing bath also. He even came to bath on a trail contract right?

On Arundell his best England chance is Wing, no way Borthwick plays Arundell at 15.

Supposedly Glos offered Santi £250-£300k so you'd expect Bath would have paid more?

Unless he feels he looks better in blue

Arundell is on £200k in Paris, no way he's come back to England for whatever Grace was on (presumably significantly under 6 figures)
Entirely possible that I'm undervaluing him - I see him as overpaid in Paris to start with, and has since done so well that Racing want him out, or at least, are happy for him to leave his contract early with no talk of transfer fees. IMO he's full of potential, but yet to realise it, despite plenty of game time
I see him as taking a pay-cut to return.
Of course, others see him as an international miracle worker - I just don't see that.
I don't see Grace as being significantly under 6 figures. He's proven all he needs to in a different code, was rumoured to be on more than Arundell in Paris, and had already spent 3-4 months with Bath before signing his contract. In theory, that means that he signed with his injuries considered to be behind him, but needing to prove that he can do in union what he could in league.
Of course, others see him as a sicknote with no record in the sport - I just don't think that one of those detractions held much water as of signing the contract.

I see them both in the £150k ±25k region.

Again, I could be undervaluing Arundell and overvaluing Grace based on my opinion rather than the coaches' opinions.

Santi rumours are in the £350k region (same ballpark as Coka - which is insane), so a good £50k more than Glos offered, and improved chance of trophies, all without having to move house.

Coka is balling!

Supposedly Snyman is to be signed next? But my mates sauce is wrong more than he's right.

JvG has been wanting him for a while - but I was under the impression that he was very happy in Ireland and not wanting to uproot.
Of course, that doesn't mean too much if IRFU decide that he needs to go.

IMO it's one of those that feels like "I want that one" =/= "We're confident of getting our man"
Now, IF Russell doesn't renew this time next year, and we have a marquee spot to offer, then we've a good chance.
Otherwise, RG is likely to either stay put, or take bigger money elsewhere

Expecting a swathe of departures now.

I was going to say how are Bath able to sign all these quality players with such a strict salary cap.
By releasing other players.

It's just that currently, we've had 4 incoming and 2 outgoing, so it doesn't add up.
But it's not August yet.

I mean what was your stance on Bristol a few years ago?
What, at that time with two unlimited marquee slots and a salary cap millions higher? Obviously Bristol wasn't over the limit and quite different in depth to the likes of Saracens, b*th and even Leicester yet still got labeled "big spending" by the media and other clubs where even this last week I saw a sincere comment under a video stating that, "it's incredible that Bristol spend more than double the likes of Leinster and Toulouse yet didn't qualify for the knock out stages of the champions cup"... That's the kind of effect it has on people. Bristol were a million+ under the £5million cap at the start of the season and petty much everyone in the media and other clubs said we'd finish 9th or 10th, with that in mind I think we are having a fantastic season.

Joe Schmidt from Australia to family time in October 2025.

I know he was on a short term contract, but I thought he would have wanted to extend it for the 2027 World Cup.
