England 2021/22

I think you're being quite generous to Blamire there, tbh

Don't get me wrong - I really like him, and was calling for his inclusion before and want him to be included going forwards - he definitely did some good stuff, but his fundamentals let him down

I'm just saying that he's not there yet, and my confidence in him at this level is dented after the autumn - he's not ready to be 2nd choice yet, so having George back means we'll have two top guys and then can have our third choice (blamire?) involved vs Italy/rotating onto the bench

They've lost a few locks tbf

Will be a massive asset to whoever signs him, arguably the best EQP going

Not at all an argument IMO. Doesn't have the flash performances that Itoje has but is consistently among the best locks on the planet when it comes to fundamentals.

I'm actually not too fussed whether he ends up at Chiefs or not as I imagine he'd command quite the wage but I really just want him back in England so he can turn out for the national team again.

Sounds like it's Exeter and Bath trying to woo him.
Available for a marquee spot as well now isn't he?

We really need a proper out and out scrummager in the squad other than Marler. Stuart actually looked like he could be that player but imo has failed and has seemed really poor. Collier appears the only real option atm with Williams out injured who could also be an answer to a poor scrummaging area. There are some decent youngsters out there so we only need a short term fix until guys like Heyes and imo Painter can break through. We also need a good backup option to Marler, Rodd is ok and when he has proved his fitness, Tom West, was going well but maybe Elrington or VRR could be included as they are also scrummaging well atm for Gloucester.

We also need to look at second row, we only really have Itoje, Ewels and Hill. I don't count Lawes as he plays 6 now and is no more than a backup if needed and Martin doesn't play. We have never found an ideal replacement for Launchbury, Kruis or a younger version of Isiekwe and Itoje. Kinda Eddies fault imo because how many players has he included in a squad to either be dropped or just not played. Martin, Wells, Isiekwe, Ribbans etc all of whom are in better form than Ewels and Hill. Even Elliott Stooke would be a great option atm. We are desperate for a second row enforcer and someone who could offer more of a push at scrum time,

Said it before but as a stopgap third choice, until Heyes(/whoever else of the next generation) is ready, we could do a lot worse than Nick Schonert - completely handled West on the weekend
As you said: Stuart hasn't fulfilled the early promise he showed, and is unlikely to improve upon that with the dire state of Bath atm

Do like Collier, as well, though

Just need someone to get some caps, really, because going into the RWC with Sinckler/Stuart and no one else is a bit concerning

I've not been watching Saints that much - how is Paul Hill going these days? He got capped again in the summer - mad that he's only 26!

Collier is a good player. Better than Schonert IMO. If Stuart gets back to form, he's better than both.

Paul Hill has never really made good on his early promise. At 26, there's still time, but I think the three mentioned above are all better options.

Painter really doesn't impress me at all. He's like a rubbish version of Uini Antonio - massive bloke, but very little to offer apart from sheer size.

On the loosehead side, Marler and Genge are the obvious go-to options and with Obano out, it's either Rodd or West as next cabs off the rank. I've always rated VRR - I'm surprised he's never had more interest TBH.

Ruck news reporting Kruis to the Chiefs; any substance to that?

It's the ruck so if they say Exeter then it means someone like Worcester will sign him lol.

RE Tighthead what about the Form Tighthead in the league?
Cole but being more serious I would say collier deserves a shot in the 6N's.

Wells is great at club but miles off International rugby Hill is miles ahead of him.
In terms of younger lock Chessum is IMO the best prospect.

Tizard is looking v promising too

Paul Hill is not an international standard prop and Painter never plays as well as you'd think. I wouldn't consider either of them.

As for locks, I'd love a big 6'8 130kg monster to partner Itoje but I'm not sure Eddie wants that and I'm not sure any young ones who are bigger are ready yet.

Either way, for Hill being 120kg he doesn't really play like it.

I had the same complaint about Hill but at club level and more recent internationals, he seems to be playing a bit more like it. Personally I think if he bulked out a bit more (and got rid of the ridiculous haircut / facial hair) he could do the job well.

Why do we not produce big locks anymore?
Tizard is pushing 19st, which is good for a young lock, but only 6ft4, which is closer to a backrower's height these days

Though that definitely plays into his hands as far as international recognition goes - EJ likes his back 5 more homogeneous

I don't think Hill is the answer at TH and none of the young lads are ready yet. Best bet is to bring Collier in with Stuart 3rd choice until Williams gets back and then bring him in as 3rd choice if hopefully Collier does well and just work with someone like Heyes as I don't really see any other major option. Don't rate Davison as a scrummager imo, Schonert isn't international standard Balmain and JFR are playing OK but OK not international standard. Sam Nixon could an interesting option though he has done better than I thought at Exeter. In the second row I think it's time to give the young lads a chance someone mentioned Olly Chessum earlier, would be good to see him integrated into the squad a real big tank is exactly what we need as Hill and Ewels just don't play enough like 5s considering they are both big players. Wells, Martin, Moon, Ribbans, Coles, Isiekwe, Munga etc we have a fair few options to look at rather than just dealing with only 3 main options.

I'm sure he probably would like that option, but the bigger locks we have either aren't good enough (Moon and Clegg for example) or aren't ready yet (and might never be).

As someone else said, Chessum looks very promising. He's pushing 6'8 and at 118kg, he has some room in his frame to bulk up, but is also mobile enough to play 6 (at club level).

Chunya Munga has impressive physical stats but isn't really showing any signs of breaking in to the starting XV at Tigers.

Beyond that, I'm not sure we have any other young locks over 6'6.
