EA Rugby 2008 Discussion Thread

It's all well and good having our wishlists for new features but what does everyone think the "actual" changes will be.

For my 2 cents I reckon they will have:

-updated rosters (duh)
-better ball physics
-tweak the offloads
-tweaked graphics

yup that'd pretty much all I'd say, on the outer though they may have

-more game modes/tournaments
-online play
-improved world league/franchise mode
-and a big maybe on an improved editor.

they need to have a much better squad editor

and dont bother with the create a player if its going to be as **** as last years!!

Yep, it is all well and good having wishlists. Theres nothing wrong with all well and good, is there :) ?

Guesses at actual content aren't likely to be any closer than wishlists, as we have no clue.

They will probably have one big new feature which they will market a lot, like in Fifa they had that 'First Touch' thing and for Rugby 06 they had the Impact Players.

I wish EA would release a press release or something. They have to be scouring the internet to see what speculations are out there...
One could only assume you'd want to fuel the fire.

Hopefully it will be something that works and makes a difference rather than the usual " Fully rendered grass that grows in real time " arse. :D

I`d be happy to see a better editor for team strips and the ability to change team names, that will help all us leaguies

... and the ability to swap the ruck for 6 tackles. We would be sorted then eh m8 ? :D

Among the better pieces of news I have heard this year.

Hopefully they can just nick the player editor from Madden. And properly update all the squads and stick in the Celtic League/Top 14.

i hope for the 360 the dont go the madden route, where nothing can be edited, im guessing i'll stay safe and get the pc version so woosaah can work his magic with an editor

I've just bought the game. (A little slow i agree). Its got the making of a decent game. But like the Cricket series (also made by HB Studios) is ridden with bugs that harm the game. Stuff like I got today , where everytime we had a new play Mark Van Gisbergen was down on the floor injured. That put me down basically to 14 men for the whole game. We won't see any major changes , HB never make any. The rosters will always change , so will the kits. And we might see a few new stadiums. They'll be a couple of new features , similar to the off-load passing and impact players of the last game. Gimmicks that try and hide the crap underneath.

The only reason EA still have a leg to stand on is that they have the licences. Is the same with football (Fifa vs Pro Evo) and the same with Cricket (Cricket 07 vs Brian Lara). And although I haven't played Rugby Challange 2006 I can't think that it would be any different. Rugby 08 ? Same **** , different game.

As you say it has the makings of a decent game. Thus far each rugby game has improved from the last attempt, which gives us hope that rugby 2008 will continue this trend. I agree that HB's attempt to make a decent cricket game have been pretty pathetic, but since rugby 05 things have looked pretty promising on the rugby front. And I disagree that its 'crap underneath'. rugby 06 broken down to its simplest form is a really good game and with more tweaking, features etc I'm confident it has the potential to be a great game.

Of course it will never be to everyone's liking, but what is? I still play the single player game and have some cracking games. I've just had one tonight, beating France 29-10 in the world cup quarter finals. To me it had all the drama of a real game of rugby. I was on the edge of my seat throughout, and i can't think of many games that do that. And look at the enthusiasm on this forum. If 06 was really that crap would we still be talking about it, and would we be getting so excited about the news of 08? I don't think so.

Anyway I guess what I'm trying to say is that rugby 06 has in my opinion broken the HB mould of making shallow games. I think we can all look forward to 08 with confidence.

Peace out.

Maybe I was a bit harsh saying it is crap underneath. But its far too easy. I've been playing the game for just over a day know and I am already on Elite. HB never make any changes. There will still be the glitches that happen that can really change the game. And they add some realistic features like decent looking turnovers. And they decide to make them happen all the time. I haven't really played the game enough to give a proper opinion. And your right it is a good game. But the difficulty levels make the game way too easy. And those little things that annoy you , like when your selecting your international squads and you have to pedal through all the players in the nation if you want to get to the wingers and full backs. Id be alot more hopeful for 08 if HB had a good history of listening to the gamers , getting rid of whats wrong and making a better game. But they don't. They believe it sufficient to just change the kits and update the rosters. And I don't really expect them to make much more of a fist of it when they do 08.

1, Online is defo !
2, Sevens Mode
3, like madden career mode (just control one player and make through the ranks i.e magners, wales and then the lions only selected if good enough )
4, much more set piece options again like maddens !
5, proper ur in control fighting evey once in a while would be nice !
6, chip and chase fluently !
7, franchise mode and if u do well u get offerd a national job and then the lions etc.. etc.. (world league sucks )

thats it from me if any of these have been mentioned sorry didnt have time to read all of the messages !!!

i told u guys it would come ooh and my bad for saying 2007 i just ment i would be due for release in 2007 !

i have told getofmyland my source its orivate at the mo ! just not for u ppl to think im a bull shitter !!

and im putting this guy in because i like him :wall: lol

how about set pieces that dont take 2 hours to set up so that you dont lose posession at the ruck waiting for the thing to set up.

better looking rucks for me i guess... like wen a player gets tackled a opposition player shud be on top tyrna ripped the ball only if it takes the offenssive team too long to get to that breakdown then a turnover occurs rather than tackel then straight turnover... i reckon thats one way that cud be more realistic and less fustrating coz atleast u know wen ur about to turn the ball over... or they cud do that and implement a holding on button, so that u cud be penalised for that to.. after a warning ofcourse.

also wen ur player goes down after being tackled... another of ur player jus dives over!! penalty!!! helloooOooo?? lol

ummmm that ankle tap and rolly polly and then 5 hours to stand back up is a stupid thing on the game~!!! hehehehe my extras

"...3, like madden career mode (just control one player and make through the ranks i.e magners, wales and then the lions only selected if good enough )..." CymruAmByth.

This has got to be a terrible idea that I pray will never be included. If you only get to play as one player on the field it would be so boring. No matter what player you'd choose you would only ever end up doing the same things over and over again. Running fron ruck to ruck as a flanker protecting your team's ball on attack or tackling and trying to turn over the ball on defence. As a number ten you would be distributing the ball to your backs and kicking occasionly. Or as a winger you'd be yawning while waiting for the ball to finally get passed to you. The game would quickly turn into a chore as it lost it's interactive appeal.

Maybe it would be better if you could control every single player in your team and you just tried to make "your player" look good as he gained in ability you would go up the ranks of competitions i.e. club, international, lions etc.

The more that you think about this the more you realise how limited it would be.

All I want is an improvement on set-pieces, especially scrums (I have never understood these - are they just random or is there some degree of skill involved) and lineouts. Mauls could also do with some work and obviously no-one is that happy with the rucks.

Kicking for goal could also do with a little refinement.

More strategic options would be better and would provide a bit more challenge when playing the AI. For example when you play against the All Blacks it would be important (if you want to win) to play a structured game in which you held on to the ball and didn't just kick the ball back to them.

And obviously the abililty to modify player's stats and names and create your own competitions would be great.

I don't really care about the on-line stuff yet. Maybe they could wait until they fixed a couple of the more basic things before they did that.

Over the next two installments of this rugby series I expect the game to be taken to extremely high levels of playability and depth. I just hope that the release date is accurate and it doesn't get delayed until Feb or March next year like last time.

All things considered, if it was 2006 on xbox 360 with online, then I would be happy at that.

I am just wondering if asking for 360 and online isnt a bit too much to ask ?

Another problem is players going into rucks. They just seem to stand there , wait to get into formation and then dive in , by that time its too late. As I've said before , HB aren't likely to change it. As for Online play. I'm not that sure they'll include it. They might have to because of Brian Lara oddly enough. HB will realise that Cricket 08/09 (whatever the next one is) will have to compete. And that will probably allow them to have the Live on the Rugby game aswell.
