Given Australia a kicking in their back yard in recent years. And most other teams.

Missing Roy and possibly believing our own hype too much. Still time to course correct.
Hope you're right, but our last 2 group fixtures aren't easy and too many are misfiring.

Agree on Roy. Penny for Hales' thoughts right now.

Australia have the recipe to be successful at world cups, and they know how to prepare their team. I still think the whole sandpaper-gate scandal was a plan to give Warner and Smith some valuable off time to get ready for the World Cup.

I don't think England should be too discouraged, they should try and not follow SA's footsteps where defeat breeds to more defeats.

Agree.

Didn't think they'd miss Roy as much as they are.

Great lad. One of my great cricket memories is an ODI I went to at the Oval where he plundered 89 off about 12 balls or something stupid.

Shoaib Akhtar's first over to Tresco he was doing his usual thing of wanking himself off over how fast he was while paying no attention to actually bowling a decent ball. 1st ball, mid 90s, BANG 4 through covers, 2nd ball, mid 90s, BANG 4 through covers, 3rd ball, high 90s
BANG 4 through point, 4th ball, high 90s, bouncer, sails over Tresco's head, over keeper's head, 4 wides. 0-17 off 3 deliveries.

I hate Shoaib Akhtar. It was absolutely beautiful.

The three scenarios (there are actually more because of net run rates but I'm estimating the orders of those for simplification, also assuming Pakistan will beat Afghanistan ) that will bring nz into the semis:

1. They win or have a rainout in one of their games, against australia or England
Or
2. England lose one of their games, against India or New Zealand
Or
3. Bangladesh beats Pakistan but loses to India

They are essentially the team that lost 5 nothing to England, plus starc, Warner, smith (ie their three best players) and the new kid. In other words a very different team, and the world should have been expecting them to be a force in this World Cup.

To me there were only ever three teams with a realistic chance of winning the thing, and they're still the same three teams. I think England have a chance to be able to beat India, but India might be able to beat Australia, and Australia is likely to beat England. So it could depend on the order they finish the round robin, who will win the cup.

See part of me wants Bangladesh to win today, but its better for England if they don't as its lessen pressure for tomorrow as a must win game.

For the tournament I really is I want Bangladesh to win both, England to win, Sri Lanka to win. NZ + Ban though on run rate.

See, many might not feel the same as you do.

1. Because we hate the English cricket team with their Irish captain.
2. Because many of us wants to see history repeating itself when it comes to Pakistan. It's freakish how many resemblances there are between this world cup and the 1992 world cup.

Actually net run rates have probably played out differently than what I expected so nz will probably finish higher than Pakistan on net run rate if they finish equal on points.

That means it's likely nz will make it unless England beats them and Bangladesh beat India and Pakistan

You don't hate their captain as much as we do! He's no Irishman!
TBH he only plays for us due to utterly rubbish rules and the setup of test Cricket. I'm 99% sure if the rules regarding (then) associate status and the ability to play at test level he'd still be playing for Ireland. The sad thing is he not even pivotal to the side anymore (although it helps).

Reality is we'll always 'poach' any decent Scottish or Irish player might as well call us the Lions and be done with it.

Yeah I think if the guy was a bit more clever he'd be more popular over here but he's more or less maintained that his six years with Ireland were intended to be a stepping stone to the English set up and he's fairly dismissive of them. He could have spun a much better line, fairly sure his mum is English or at least was born there, not that you'd ever get me to like an Irishman who switched allegiance in any sport.

It's such a minor sport over here though that he's really the only thing people know about it along with that time we beat England, I wouldn't be much more educated either.

A sport 99% of the world don't give a crap about and a guy who comes from that 99% and is good enough for the 1% playing for one of those 1% countries ... its hardly the worst example imaginable of switching sporting allegiance to my mind. Especially when the historic cricket links between the two countries are pretty strong

I do agree we might want to call ourselves the British Isles though. Tradition though innit, people don't like change

So made the SF having given 2 of the other teams a right kicking (especially NZ) but took one from the other.

Aus V Eng Final
