I think its safe to say Mr Steyn is the best bowler in the world at the minute by some way. Wish he had taken up rugby, I think he would of made a good number 8. Has a cricketing rugby team been done? Here is some thoughts:

1 Gatting
2 Boon
3 Inzi
4 Holding
5 Tremlett
6 Botham
7 Flintoff
8 Steyn

There's my pack!

I don't see steyn as an 8, too skinny.

But AB de Villiers, Faf Du Plessis and Herschelle Gibbs all played Rugby at high school and were fly halves... Gibbs I think even went on to represent SA at Junior level...

Ex Somerset and Derbyshire bowler Steffan Jones played part time for Moseley a few times early in his career, was a full-back if I remember right

Ok we have Steffan Jones at Full back and Gibbs at Fly Half, maybe but Beefy at 8 and Steyn as 13. Need a number 6 then, maybe G Smith?

Aaron Shingler was in the Glamorgan squad as a bowler.

Can he go back?

Maybe a bit harsh but the weekends performance showed his lack of quality again.

The team is filling up:

1 Gatting
2 Boon
3 Inzi
4 Holding
5 Tremlett
6 G Smith
7 Flintoff
8 Botham
9 ?
10 Gibbs
11 Shoib Ahktar
12 Goughy
13 Steyn
14 Donald
15 Stefan Jones

Any other suggestions?

Good to see we managed to win another cricket game (the second T20 international vs England). It is only T20, but we will take any win we can get! McClenaghan bowled well again, but I was really impressed with how well Ian Butler bowled - conceding less than 10 runs off your full four overs in T20 is pretty good! I'm looking forward to the deciding match on Friday.

I'm really starting to look forward to the India vs Australia test series. Both sides seem very much in a rebuilding phase after the retirement of a number of stars over the last year, so I'm expected we will see some new stars starting to emerge from both sides. It will be interesting to see what sort of tactics Australia use too. They are considering playing two spinners, but I think that would be a mistake (as they don't have two quality spinners) - I think they would be better off picking their three best pace bowlers, as pace bowlers can get wickets in India as long as they bowl well.

9. Matthew Wade

more of a domestic player, but google Mark Cosgrove and you'll realise he could fit in at either 1 or 3

First ODI at 1am our time. Interested to watch this, Englands ODI carry the same cliche as the French rugby side, we never know what side will show up. England have switched Kieswetter for Buttler which is a good move for England, causes problems at Somerset though as we have 2 International keeper-batsmen but obviously only 1 can play the position. I think soon we'll have to commit to one and will have to let the other one speak to other counties.

The match has just started now. For some reason we seem to be more competitive in ODI cricket of late, so hopefully that continues. McClenaghan has knocked over Cook early, which is a good sign.

I'm pretty happy with the side we have at the moment, though we need Taylor to get back into form soon. The only player I'm not happy with is Andy Ellis - he is a good provincial player, but is not good enough for international level as either a bowler or a batsman. I'm not convinced on Elliot either but he did perform ok vs South Africa so probably deserves another chance. I think we are really short of strike bowlers outside our opening pair. We are relying on Elliot, Franklin, Ellis, and Williamson to deliver 20 overs between them, and they could go for a lot if the England batsmen get in....

From an immediate reaction to Ellis I'd agree, he's got a bustling run up and delivery with no explosion. Its something that relies on rhythm to work. Would agree he'd be a more than decent in a domestic game.

Decent start so far, we've got a few players who've not played an ODI since before Christmas so to some extent they have to play into some rhythm

Ellis is doing ok at the moment, so I should start complaining about other NZ players :) Bell and Trott look to be getting themselves set pretty well, though Trott needs to start scoring some runs soon, as he is digging himself into a bit of a hole. England look to have a bit of hitting to come, so I don't think they will be too worried...

Yeah, its showing that Trott has been in the nets since India, mistiming a lot. Thing is with him is that he could still be there in 25 overs time and have 60 or 70 to his name so as long as Root, Morgan, Buttler et al do their job we could be in for a strong total.

Trott is picking it up a bit now. England are looking pretty comfortable at the moment at 150/2. As I mentioned before our lack of wicket-takers in the middle overs is a big issue - England should continue to build over the next 7-8 overs, leaving them in a very strong position to charge in the final 10. From here England should be be targeting 280+.

To me there isn't much of a threat from the Kiwi bowlers so the only way we're getting out is by errors from the batsmen, like Bell did. Should be a decent total set.

How I'm still up and watching this at 3.15am I have no idea

3.15am is impressive! Could be an interesting run chase as we do have a few good ODI batsmen (Guptill, Williamson, Taylor, McCullum) and a bit of depth in the batting lineup. Unfortunately for you it will be after 5am by the time we start bating...

Bring it! I'm in it for the long haul now. Was thinking of retiring at end of the innings but thats morning so a cup of tea or 33 should sort me out for the rest.

A bit of a collapse by England, but 258 should be a competitive score. Good bowling by Mills, McClenaghan, and McCullum for the Blackcaps - Ellis was (as I predicted) disappointing. I hope the late injury to McClenaghan wasn't series, as he has been a bit of a revelation for us over the last couple of months.
