Feel sorry for him, he's a class act. Elgar / Faf / Prince to get a chance then?

Dean Elgar has been called up. But Faf looks likely to play the next game.

The winding down is part of the team spirit to get the team together and have some fun and relax after a long day. Even if he didn't bat, every one takes part in the winding down exercise.

heineken is right, essential part of team cohesion.

so after day 3, our hopes are with cowan, clarke, hussey and wade making big scores. I would pencil in siddle and pattinson for a tail wag as well. siddle almost made a 1st class ton a couple of weeks ago, no spud with the bat.

ponting back in the media spotlight again, they're calling for his head.

Ravi bopara is the better choice because of his international experience and being an all rounder would certainly add an extra weight-age to the team plus he is goo fielder too.

What a comeback from Australia!! nobody including myself saw that coming, if only we can bowl them out cheaply now.

Great year for Michael Clarke, well done to him.

Aussies back to the top?

We still have to bat...

Indeed, but what I am referring to is are they on their way back to the being the best cricketing nation? Seem to have a lot more stability of late and senior players are performing, as opposed to some of the abject performances they have put in the last year.

I think it's a bit premature to say that, especially when playing at home. for them to be considered on the up, they will need to start winning tests away from home, and preferably win series... I think they are still a long way away from that, and that apart from Michael Clarke, their other batsmen needs to get runs more frequently. I think they need to get Ponting out of the squad as he's just dragging him down...

Faf du Plessis jou Yster!!

what a performance by the Debutant! scoring 78 in his first innings and 110 not out in the second, saving the test match leaving the Aussies again with everything to do in the third and final test at the WACA starting on friday.

Faf looks great out there hey. I can't believe he is 28.. people are asking WTF has he been doing all these years to finally get a shot now and deliver like he has?

His effort today took a lot of balls, no pun intended :)

For us, Clarke is on fire, he's just gone from strength to strength since dumping lara bingle.

I see now quiney has been omitted from the squad and they've bought in mitchell johnson. if he's picked in the XI for Perth, i'll put money on SA... wides being the top scorer

And so another former Captain of a team retires after Graeme Smith was at their shores... :p

Ricky Ponting dismissed this morning for the last time in his illustrious career. The Proteas gave him a guard of honour when he arrived to bat and every player shook his hand when he left the field.

Now, the Aussies are 185/4 with still a whole day's of batting left tomorrow, but with Clarke and Hussey at the Crease, the could still save this test and end the series level.

SA clinching the series 0-1 after a dominant batting display yesterday setting us up for the win!

I had a feeling we were going to come good in the third match after doing well to play to two draws in the previous games where we were outplayed but managed through some dogged performances and gained the 'morale victor'y by drawing and had all the momentum at the end.

Ricky Ponting. What a legend of the game and best of luck with whatever you plan on doing now that you've stepped down and what a great display by the Proteas clapping him onto the field in recognition of his achievements and what he has contributed to the sport over the years. That's the type of sportmanship I like to see from the players representing my country, well done for that boys and the never-say-die attitude almost more than retaining that no.1 ranking!

Yes he was a legend of the game, but I know many Saffas who dislikes him, and his unsportsmanlike conduct he used to show to opposition. While it's sad to see a batsmen like him retire, as a sports personality, I'm glad he's done. He was an ass

Sure enough but if he was our ass I'd have taken him any day of the week. We've had our fair share of sporting asses as well LOL. He was a thorn in our side and the difference for Aus in many games and you have to have some respect for that even if only grudgingly.

True, and I do have respect for him for what he has accomplished...

but that's about where it stops...

Fair enough. I guess that's how most foreigners would feel about someone like Bakkies too who unfortunately let that tag of 'enforcer' get to his head during the last period of his test carreer.

Well played South Africa, you were way better than us when it counted.

i think ponting chose the right time to retire, a legend of the game, but would not have played in Hobart with those scores.

If only we could be better when it really counted LOL. We sure don't have the mentality to get up and play at CWC tournaments.

As for Ponting I agree with you. Just wish John Smit had the same sense Ponting has shown by stepping out when your rep is still in place and your just starting to show some weariness.

Both teams were close all series, good signs for us given SA are the top team right now. They were the better team on the weekend and picked up an away series win because of it.

Ponting has lost something, whether it's reflexes or his ability to watch the ball. Either way, he gave his ability to the country until he couldn't give anymore, great aussie spirit. One of our best players ever.

Good to see the team developing though, good signs in the bowling and batting. Will be interesting to see how we fit guys like Watson and Johnson back into the team.
