Cricket Thread

I'm a fan of cricket, but as I play cricket I don't follow it as closely as I follow rugby.. too much cricket drives me up the wall. The T20 world cup should be good and T20 does bring excitement to the game as you say, it's more of an even playing field. I reckon south africa will go well as well as India, england and hopefully australia. either ireland or bangaladesh to pull off an upset. good to see aghanistan in there too.

I hope Australia manages to pull off an upset and win a game. You know, as they are currently ranked 10th in T20 cricket ;)

Great game by Sri Lanka, those 6 wickets by Mendis were absolute beauties

Expected result for Sri Lanka. As a Proteas fan, I'm both nervous and excited about this tournament, we have a great chance to win as those pitches will suit both our big hitters and our bowlers. But we are the chokers of world cricket, and that is a bitter pill to swallow.

And we are in the same group as the home team... never a good prospect, especially since we seem to always lose against them in World Cups.

I heard 5 of the Sa players are ill, just as Vettori. Hope they can sort their stuff out.

Yeah, there's a bug in Sri Lanka.

The doctor said however that all 5 of the South Africans should be ready to play tomorrow vs Zimbabwe. So at least that's good news.

Looks like South Africa cruised to victory over Zimbabwe, knocking them over for 93, then getting their without losing a wicket.

New Zealand has their opening match tonight against Bangladesh, and I expect it will be quite a close match. I feel Bangladesh lack a bit of firepower in the batting department, but New Zealand often struggle against spin, and Bangladesh's attack will probably contain 1 pace bowler and 4-5 spinners!

hey what do you guys think of the current on going world cup t20. England is getting beaten continuously

South Africa did a massive choke again today.

Pakistan needed 53 from 5 overs and were 7 wickets down. But tailender Umar Gul came in and won it for them.

By the way what a stupid format this tournament has. England got thrashed by India, but neither side gained/lost anything from the match in terms of the tournament.

I have zero interest in this tournament. Main gripe is that T20 is not proper cricket and I don't like how, in general, people rate a win in this tournament over anything else. Test Matches should always be the pinnacle of the game internationally. Hence why I'm more excited for the Test Matches in India to see how we get on with a inexperienced but talented batting line-up.

Death to T20!

Windies deserved T20 champions. Expected a bit more of the second innings when Sri Lanka was chasing.

Well done to the W.Indies, apart from all of Sri Lanka, I dont think there is anyone who is sad they have won it. However I refer you by my previous post.

Death to T20!

Westindies won the worldcup t20 2012 ...as gayle performed very gud in all the games except the big game final...Hats of to Westindies and the hero of the final MArlon samuels

Are any of you guys following the SA vs Aus test match at the Gabba which started today?

very good start by SA 244/2 after 79 overs... Couldn't have asked for a better start to the series.

Alviro Pietersen, Hashim Amla and Jacques Kallis all notching up fifties.

sa definitely making light work on a first day wicket, big score imminent but apparently it's going to **** down in Brisbane all day today. Spare a thought for jp duminy.. Rolled his ankle playing touch in a warm down last night.. Will apparently miss 6 weweeks so the only thing that looks like saving us now is the rain and the fact we only need 9 wickets in both innings.

It's actually worse than expected, he has fractured his tendon muscle in his achilles heel. Will be out for 6 months and will be on the first plane home after he's released from hospital.

No play on the second day due to rain.

Looks more likely to end in a draw.

As has been pointed out, why did he need to "wind down" after he didnt actually do anything all day apart from watch the batting?
