Cricket 09 confirmed...

Great find Radman. I'd say that PC will be just one of a few formats though. I'm hoping that all teams will be licensed in the 20/20 squads. If EA have bought the license for that tournament, it could for once mean they have all players for that comp.

I'm pretty sure that codies had some rights to some of the other squads for 50 over games in their Brian Lara /Ricky Ponting Series. Unless they have a game coming too I hope they've lost those rights to EA.

By the way, anyone else hoping that they include this feature thats been asked for on many cricket forums - manual appealing? It's been suggested for a long time that the player should be able to push a button to appeal after a delivery hits the pads. Also, another extension of that for offline multi-player is having a third person be able to be the umpire and rule on those kinds of things. Personally I'd find that great fun for the odd game.

yes manual appealing is a must

And if you over appealed too much the ump would take a harder stance on decisions

I reckon if you have manual appeal â€" you absolutely need umpire mistakes

How good would it be, if you appealed just out of the blue, thinking its not out, and then the finger goes up â€" it would be a riot!!!

But I reckon they need to concentrate on the basics â€" front foot, back foot, manual fielding (blic did this well) â€" STATS STATS STATS STATS STATS!!!!!!

The best manual fielding was cricket 2002 and Brian Lara/Shane Warne Cricket. We need a more modern version of the fielding in those two. It's long overdue that it was brought back as a major part of the game.

With manual appealing, I'd love the idea of very marginal umpire mistakes occasionally. The speed at which you appeal should be a factor. The second the ball hits the pad, an icon of a random one of the face buttons should come up and the quicker you push that button the stronger the appeal and more chance of swaying that umpire!

Push the wrong face button and then your appeal is not so supported.

I remember the old cricket international on SNES had manual appealing. That game was similar to Jonah. Though not great as Jonah Lomu rugby was, it was fast paced and realistic with shoddy graphics. I havent played a cricket game that good since (I still whip out the old SNES when I'm bored) but Shane Warne and Ricky Ponting cricket was decent.

Iversen - when you play how many overs do you normally set it on?

It depends really. Some of our tourneys have been on 10 overs, but an equal amount have been on 20 overs. If we have 4 or more people in a tourney, we usually go for 10 over games. It'd just take forever if it were any longer.

I've had some tests with mates, but 50 over games don't really lend themselves to a lot of saving and re-loading for me and I'm not going to spend a whole day on one game, lol.

Haha Super International Cricket for the SNES was the raddest game ever. Me and my mates used to appeal multiple times after every ball in every over.

"Howzat!"
"Not Out!"
"Howzat!"
"Not Out!"
"Howzat!"
"Not Out!"

Never got old.

Come to think of it i still have that cartridge lying around somewhere......dont have a SNES though.

Yeah I reckon one appeal per ball and it must hit the pads! I also love the idea of having a third person be the umpire too in offline multiplayer. I can just see a couple of my friends playing it, me sitting in as umpire. There's a big nick, it carries, the keepers caught it, player one appeals! I reach out, take a fiver from player two......not out! It's just gotta be included!

I'm glad you share the love for this idea, Kulch. It may or may not come in this installment, but it'll have to come along eventually. It'd just be too entertaining to leave out.

My wife Amy just posed an interesting question. Will they have referrals and powerplay? Powerplay has been around for a while, and referrals have been in the wind for the last 12 months, so will they be there and will they be able to be switched on or off?

They will have to have Power Play for sure. It's part of the game's laws so leaving it out would be criminal.

I like the idea for 3rd player umpiring...can't see it happening though unfortunately :(

TRF CRICKET 09 TOURNAMENT 2011!!!

I already have tournaments with a dozen or so mates with Cricket 07 on PS2. Its a terrific game! We can sit there all day sinking the beers whilst playing a test match and laughing at the commentary. "ITS MAXIMUM!"

Gee, I know how good competition with others offline can make someone, so I just know that you'll be a massive online threat with this ***le, Melon. Plus being Australian can't hurt your chances either, lol.

I know that a third player umpiring is a longer odds thing than manual appealing, but it's at least good to know that it's something that so far most of us would love to see.

To make certain lines and lengths hard to hit, without creating bowling hot-spots that can be exploited will be the biggest challenge for this as an online ***le. I certainly hope HB have worked out the answer to that. Maybe Big Beach Sports cricket on the Wii was a testing ground for it. Was that an online ***le?

Despite not playing a cricket game for years now, Dale will become the TRF cricket 09 champion.

hansie cronje cricket 09!!![/b]

Yup could have him the Waugh brothers and Shane Warne just like the Fifa 09 covers except they can call it the cheaters 09 instead.

Even though I suck at Cricket, and played the Brian Lara series, I might just pick this up (depending on how good the next Brian Lara game is).
