[COVID-19] General Discussion

Christmas now ****** even more ****** than I was saying it should......72 hours of extra planning for people ****** up the wind.

Another bloody u-turn. Hancock mentioned that this was more transmissible last week and Johnson said it was inhumane to change Christmas plans. Once again they hoped they wouldn't have to do this, and once again they were wrong and have been forced into it.

I think Bojo meant 31 December and not 31 January, but didn't correct himself Must be thinking of self assessment tax deadline day.

Remember when London was tier 2, now tier 4.

lol
Couldn't make it up.
It's insane they've been in 4 different rules in 4 weeks. ****** off with the governments ridiculous feet dragging.

And they've been watching as the numbers in Kent have been rising since sodding September. Now places like Medway are in the 800s per 100,000. My area just outside London is currently in the 600s.

Just as a matter of comparison, my area (Gloucestershire / Worcestershire border) is around 100 per 100,000 (having been down around 80 2 weeks ago - almost like lockdown2 was working, but a work in progress, finished too early - even without the sheer idiocy of Christmas easing)

Yup it's why we struggled visiting another Tier 2 area (South Somerset) on Christmas Day. Combined with today's announcement, the fact my wife has to go in the office (some Tier 3 people coming in) and the people we were visiting people in thie mid 70's. It was something we just didn't want to risk anyone.

The 600s figure I quoted is from my post code. For my borough it's in the 300s. Still 3 times higher than yours.

My borough is 807.2!

I know multiple schools that have had to close including some primaries, but hey, schools don't spread it.

I'm now at a loss for what to do at Christmas - the intention was to visit Mum (North Wilts) for 2 nights; just the 2 of us, and 1 of her - with my brother arriving 2 days after we left.

And now the advice is not to stay overnight, Christmas bubbles down to just being Christmas day, stay local (with no definition of what "local" means).
Mum suffers with her mental health, and really won't take any reduction well.

This is why I have a hatred for the government in all this. I'd much prefer to have a clear decision sept the entire conference trying to decide what is sensible. For us it was minimise contact as much as possible fro Whitty.

However you do what you think is best, it's horrible I despise Christmas just being my wife and me it's not what it's about for me. However I don't envy anyone having to go through what they think is best weighing everything in

Well that went well.
Started preparing Mum that we might call Christmas a day trip, and not stay overnight. She's in tier 2, 6 miles away from tier 4; our numbers are higher than they were going into Lockdown2.

Her worry is that she gives someone else the virus. We're not allowed the same concern.
"If I don't see you at Christmas I might not be around for Easter! Click... Bzzzzzz"

FFS Mr Johnson, this decision should be coming from you, not left to people like me to make under extreme duress and manipulation. Your job is to lead, not dodge every decision that comes your way. Yes, you got the job with shitty timing, but it's a job you've spent the last 30 years building towards. You wanted the privilege, you HAVE to accept the responsibility.

The primary school in my village had to close a week and a half early, for Christmas, due to positives in years 5 & 6 meaning most of the school has to isolate.
Pretty crazy cause we're quite a small village in the country.

We're in tier 4, as are 2 of the 3 kids, and have a very upset and p*ssed off family on our hands. It's the younger elements who have taken this badly, my elderly mother, who is self sufficient and nothing if not pragmatic, had long since decided that she wouldn't join us this year.

Putting aside the emotional side of things - in 25 years I've seldom seen Mrs OH react so badly to anything - I'm not saying this is the wrong call, but the hope of a "normal" Christmas shouldn't have been given in the first place and this decision could have been taken - or strongly flagged - days ago.

I hope it's not, but you can see how this could be a tipping point for many.

Agreed that's the bit that ****** me off tonight. A few days ago we were all prepared to take it on the chin if a bit miffed but we were told basic sensibleness was good enough. Today's message was you can but you'd be mad to do it.

So last week Johnson was doing his usual deflection bullshit saying Starmer wanted to "cancel Christmas" and guffawing away thinking he had hit him with a real zinger. Once again, Johnson does what Starmer originally suggested, and what he mocked, only a week or 2 later than he should.

******* Etonian twat, shove his head down a toilet and never let him into another position of responsibility ever again! The same for the rest of these Etonion / Harrovian bellend who think they are born to rule over the mere peasants of this land. Can we stop electing these stuckup buffoons to office when they have done nothing to deserve it?

Deny, Deflect, Discredit. Bojo and co have learnt this from Trump, who learnt it from Putin, Xi and all the other Despots.

Many of us here saw how utterly ridiculous the Xmas relaxation rules were way back at the beginning of December. Like the Virus really gives a **** that it is Xmas.

They've been losing credibility since March and now this - can they get any lower? Oh yes their handling of Brexit trade deal. But the worse thing is we are stuck with them for next 4 years at least and who can see them losing a 80 seat majority? Not bloody likely right. So add another 5 to that.
