Bring Cliff Morgan out of retirement! He did that classic commentary on that Baabaa clash with New Zealand in 1973!

Um kinda biased, not sure how he'd sound in english.... But welsh language commentator Huw Llywelyn Davies is rather entertaining when commentating. has some nice one liners. I would post some examples but he commentates in welsh.... so would be pointless. But those that have heard him will get what i mean :p :p

Mexted would be funny the first month of playing, but he'd get old quickly. Nisbett all the way.

Hugh(UNBELIEVABLE) Bladen would be great choice but dont forget about Matthew Pierce who for me is probably the best rugby commentator in the world at the moment!
HB can also incorporate Bill Mclaren in a classic match section

They can? They have the rights to his real life commentaries and Jonah Lomu ones? I didn't know that.

Maybe that shouldn't really be stated as something they "can" do?

The Bill McLaren idea is pretty sweet, although I suspect they'd need first to cut, re-sample and archive hundreds of phrases and names from literally thousands of hours of commentary to make it plausible, time that'd be needlessly taken up considering the limited development constraints.

Plus I'd bet they'd need to be jumping through hoops from now until a decade on Thursday to get permission.

Wouldn't mind one of Nisbett or Mexted getting a gig with an English both. Definitely no Aussies blokes :p.

Why does everyone say nisbett? is it just cause these are kiwis making the suggestions? he is useless, he doesnt even get half the peoples names right!

I agree none of the aussies are real flash, I'd say in the southern hemisphere the south africans do the best commentating, they aint biased, they say it how it is and they have a good knowledge of the game. the aussies are good for light hearted commentary, but when not doing that they are just as useless as half of the kiwi commentators.

What an idiotic statement! He doesn't get 50% of the names right? Show some evidence of that! Every, EVERY commentator, even Bill McLaren himself has gotten names mis-pronounced from time to time. You've just lost a lot of credibility. When you run someone down you better have evidence or you just make yourself look foolish.

Is it just kiwis suggesting him? Nearly entirely, but not totally. The same as most people from other countries are suggesting their own commentators too. It's only natural, they are the ones you hear!

I had actually thought you were becoming a pretty good member on here and you say something thats bound to offend a good group of people from the host country of the 2011 world cup.

There are very good South African commentators, no doubt. There are some decent Australian ones too, it's just when they work together as a team they can sound absurd, occasionally shouting out at the least little thing like their League counterparts. New Zealand has a reasonably good commentator in Tony Johnstone but an even better one in Grant Nisbett. Our comments men can be poor at times, but Jon Preston is not too bad.

People need to realise that the next world cup is being held in New Zealand and it would be a major boost to the product to have one of the major commentators from the host country included in the game. I don't like to slag off other commentators with nasty, made up statistics and have no time for people who do.

Apologies to all members. I have had to restart the poll. I had Phil Kearns as being from New Zealand and needed to correct that. The poll had not been going for long. Feel free to vote again. It is multiple choice so you can enter all of your preferred options. Thank you for your patience regarding this. :)

Hmm, the only time I've heard Nisbett get names wrong was when Cedric Heymans scored a try and he thought it was Cerc. Other than that I'd say he's a consistantly good commentator and he's one of the least accented and bias commentators in the South Hemisphare in my opinion. The fact that Nisbett is a commentator and not a former rugby great says something considering he commentates big matches that Ian Jones, Grant Fox and Murray Mexted don't. Silly statement. Would go into more detail with how silly but you just got told by C A Iversen.

George Hook... The only man in world rugby to know less about rugby then Jerry Guscott.

On Topic; Barnes and Harrisson for NH Games, Whoever for the SH ones.

It's a multiple choice poll and had more than 10 options been available I had Stuart Barnes as the next cab off the rank. Kind of disappointed me as I didn't want to leave out any NH options if I could, and yes George Hook was also on my piece of paper in front of the monitor, lol.

The way I see it, the NH Competitions could use the NH commentating team (so HEC, Premiership, Six Nations etc.) and the SH team work on the SH competitions (Super 14, Tri Nations).

If you do a tour, you pick what you want (Lions, NZ Grand Slam etc) then your commentary is based on which team you select: So If you select the Lions to go on tour with, you get the NH team. If you choose the ABs (for example) and play against the Lions, you get the SH Team. Vice Versa if you want to tour the NH with a Tri-Nations team.

Friendlies can be purely random who commentates.

I went with one of each, and as I thought Iversen made a good point about the WC being in NZ, chose Nisbett, even though I know nothing of him.

Very nice of you Duckdee, but wouldn't want to pressure anyone. I like commentators from all over the world. I like hearing english commentary, frenchmen (if they can call in english :) ), Irish or anyone else. I just think every commentator deserves a fair shake of the stick. Except maybe Ian Robertson, he's been there a few times now. :)

By the way, there are some You Tube clips of Nisbett commentating with Grant Fox back a few pages and you'll hear that he sounds not too bad, when he's compared to Grant Fox he'll sound really good though. :)
