Celtic League Thread 05/06

Once again, I have been proven how stupid Alix Popham is. ''Let's start the handbags while Davies runs through''.

I am now starting to appreciate Henson more as a rugby player now, he owns the current Welsh centres or at least the 12 options.

Hercus is rubbish, useless kicker, better get his bags packed as he going on the opposite plane to Stephen Jones to some obscure french club.

Good game, thanks to Wales and the BBC coverage, otherwise my rugby is held to 10 minutes on a sunday with bloody Jon Inverdale.

yeah i think hes finally coming out of his bad patch and into a bit of form, which is great just before the summer tours.

Don't you go to Sale games? Or at least the home ones.

That would work, I guess. Speaking of which, I was looking at the Llandovery RFC site and they seem to have more Scarlets players in their side than any other of the Scarlets feeder clubs. Is there something about Llandovery that's better than Llanelli RFC?
Yes they do get allot of the first team players from the Scarletts when they are injured

I was just reading the Celtic League website and in the rules for the Celtic League it says that each team must have a minimum of ten "sufficiently specialised and experienced Front Row players". Now, on the Scarlets website, they only have six props and two hookers, making a total of eight "sufficiently specialised and experienced Front Row players".

How are they getting past the rule?

Maybe they've registered players from Llanelli and Carmarthen etc. aswell but they're not on the website?

Llanelli, Carmarthen Quins and Llandovery to be correct
And Narberth, if you want to be picky ;) [/b]
Sorry to double post!

Narbeth is not really a feeder club of sorts, it falls into the catchement area for the scarletts. North Wales, Ceredigion, Pembrookshire and Carmarthen all belong to Llanelli.

I go to most Sale home game, but they come around once a month, we have had a lot of away games recently, was going to go to Gloucester, glad I didn't 15-12 in penalty kicks.

I'll be going to Bath, so we assure a home playoff.

if dragons produce an upset tonight, it could put the scarlets into the poo, allthough we'll have 2 in hand. But still, bein dragged down to the dragon's level is not appealing

I can't believe why Lyn Jones is still not picking James Hook. He plays two average fly halfs instead of him.

The Quins & the Dragons are rumoured to be interested in him, I hope he does leave, serves Jones right for not picking him.

ive heard rumours of the scarlets wanting to use him as a 15. Though i believe this would be a complete waste of a great fly half. Just a rumour though.

scarlets beat the dragons 36-17 with mark jones scoring three tries in under 30 minutes.

I admit mark Jones is good but that NGD tackling was f***ing digraceful! :ranting:

Scarlets v Gunners tonight at Murrayfield

Although the Gunners have been slightly off-form of late, I can't look past their home form in this game. "Fortress Murrayfield", as it is known to some, can be impregnable at times and I expect it to be a tough game for the Scarlets to win. However, if we can get some good ball going, we could be in for a good close game tonight :)

Edinburgh Gunners
Backs: Hugo Southwell, Chris Paterson ©, Marcus di Rollo, Peter Jorgensen, Simon Webster, Phil Godman, Mike Blair

Forwards: Alasdair Dickinson, Andrew Kelly, Craig Smith, Alastair Kellock, Scott Murray, Matt Mustchin, Simon Taylor, Allister Hogg

Replacements: Dave Hewett, Allan Jacobsen, Dave Duley, Alasdair Strokosch, Rory Lawson, Matt Dey, Francisco Leonelli

Llanelli Scarlets
Backs: Lee Byrne, Mark Jones, Regan King, Gavin Evans, Dafydd James, Gareth Bowen, Dwayne Peel

Forwards: Iestyn Thomas, Matthew Rees, Craig Dunlea, Vernon Cooper, Chris Wyatt, Inoke Afeaki, Dafydd Jones, Jonathon Mills

Replacements: Phil John, Craig Hawkins, Adam Jones, Jonathon Edwards, Clive Stuart-Smith, Mike Hercus, Garan Evans

With Paterson returning to the team, and Godman at 10, our back line looks pretty decent (could do with Dewey's breaking of the game line, but I hope he'll be back for next year). Our back is pretty big aswell and last time we played the Scarlets we boshed them around quite a bit upfront. Though, quite a bit has changed since then for us. I'm hoping that we can overturn this dip in form tonight.

I'll be at the game, as always, so I'll let you all know about it tonight.

Dragons 32 - 18 Glasgow it finished putting us level with the Scarlets in the free weekend league but level with the Ospreys in the non-free weekend league!

Dragons look more and more like picking up a European spot, have come into a decent run of form and should the Ospreys fail to win tomorow at Leinster they could find themselves dragged into the dogfight with the Scarlets.

Good performance from the Gunners tonight, far better than we have been. Few handling errors and we took our chances at goal. Godman, Webster and Smith were brilliant tonight. Lawson was unlucky not to get a 5th try aswell. Hogg and Di Rollo went of at half time, I presume injured but it didn't look serious. We scored some great tries and looked really sharp in attack and our defence was great. The two tries we conceded were when we weren't paying attention but when Llanelli had alot of pressure when we were at 14 men for a dubious sin binning of Strokosh we soaked it up and then forced a turnover, charged up the park and won a penalty. As I said, the attack was great. Webster was so quick and Paterson had plenty go forward. Godman was also full of ideas tonight and Blair played well. Lawson also played well, and I'm sad to see him go.

Llanelli again shot themselves in the foot. They gave away silly penalties and Paterson kicked the points. The ref didn't really pick up on it (apart from that, he was actually a decent ref), but there were alot of dangerous high tackles and cheap shots from the Llanelli players. Though I did laugh when I saw Mikey Blair just boot a Llanelli player for being offside.

Keep it the same for next week Todd - We're back.
