TheRugbyForum.com can exclusively reveal the shocking news coming from Headingley, the home of Leeds Carnegie and Leeds Rhinos, this evening. A press conference has been called for 10am UK time, where it will be announced that Roman Abramovic, Russian oligarch, has bought both clubs.
Speculation is already rife that the Russian’s billions are already being sunk into transfer budgets. Leeds Carnegie have been linked with a sensational double swoop for mercurial All Blacks fly half Dan Carter and Welsh wing wizard Shane Williams. The Rhinos meanwhile have been linked with bringing Darren Lockyer over for the 2010 season and are reportedly eyeing up a similar deal for Israel Folau, who will cost in the region of £1 million having only joined the Broncos last season. Small change for Abramovic, who has overseen massive purchases at Chelsea such as Andrei Shevchenko and Michael Essien.
It has long since been speculated that the Russian has grown bored of life at Chelsea, and has only recently started to attend their full time games on a regular basis once more following boardroom strife in 2008. It is unclear at this moment whether or not Abramovic will sell his stake in the London based club but has underlined his new found commitment to both codes of rugby with this new adventure.
More details are expected to be released throughout the day.
