Brumbies vs the BIL

Something about this B&I team doesn’t feel right. There is clearly talent everywhere, but outside of a few players, nothing wows you.

Sheehan, Freeman, Ringrose, and Genge are playing at an elite level but no one else is.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they lost the first test and make a bunch of needed changes for the second.

Bundee, Furlong, Kinghorn, Curry and others are not playing very well.

I doubt it but I really hope its a case of them not showing too much of their hand. Gatlands approach was always a simple gameplan that could be executed in a short time frame. Today the BiL were short on energy and physicality (again).

Far too many times were guilty of forcing it. Sadly Tom Curry has played himself out of the test 23 now IMO. McCarthy didnt do a whole lot in my mind, which is why you've got to take performances in the warm ups with a pinch of salt.

Thought Chessum had a good game but not sure about him being used at 6. Thought only Sheehan, Ringrose, and Freeman, Itoje came out of that with any real credit.

Kinghorn - 6/10 - 'Will start if fit'
Freeman - 6/10 - 'Still likely to start'
Ringrose - 8/19 - 'Improves his chances'
Aki - 7/10 - 'Still between him and Tuipulotu'
Lowe - 6/10 - 'In with a good chance'
Russell - 8/10 - ‘Certain’
Gibson-Park - 8/10 - ‘Certain’
Genge - 7/10 - ‘Pulling ahead of Porter’
Sheehan - 8/10 ‘Certain’
Furlong - 6/10 - Lost ground to Stuart and Bealham’
Itoje - 8/10 - ‘Certain’
McCarthy - 6/10 - ‘ Likely to be on the bench’
Chessum - 8/10 - ‘Assured of being involved’
Curry - 7/10 - ‘Between him and Morgan’
Conan - 7/10 - ‘Likely to start’
Replacements - 7/10 - ‘Smith might habe got himself a bench spot and Porter, Stuart, van der Filer and Pollock all helped their chances of getting in the 23’

Muirhead 7/10 O'Donnell 7/10 Sapsford 7/10 Feliuai 6/10 Toole 6/10 Meredith 6/10 R Lonergan 7/10 Telei 6/10 L Lonergan 7/10 van Nek 5/10 Shaw 5/10 Neville 7/10 Hooper 7/10 Scote 8/10 8. Tuaina, Taii Tualima 7/10

Completely agree with every word.

After my morning contemplation on the porcelain throne, I’ve come to the conclusion that my issue is the poor performance of so many Irish players.

Conan, Furlong, JVDF, JBP, Bundee, Keenan, Beirne, and McCarthy have been rather blah or poor the entire tour.

When you’ve built the spine of your team with Irish boys and they aren’t performing, it makes the team feel vulnerable.

Add in the strength of the team was the back row and I have zero idea what the right balance is. Curry is playing poorly. There is no clear 6. Conan is OK, but they need him to be great.

If Valentini, Wilson, and Mcreight are healthy, I’m going with the OZ backrow all day.

The headline is incongruent with the rating.

Some iffy scores and comments for me. Thought Freeman was one of the better players on the pitch and nit the same score as Lowe.

Furlong had a better game, Bealam has been the form tight head Stuart hasn't really shown his excellent 6N and Bath form.

There's more than a few players that look knackered after a very long season and presumably some beasting training sessions.

Said in a previous post when watching the Lions socials you realise how little training they get to do because of the travel and quick turn arounds. Players just won't be conditioned to play twice a week either.

Anyhow on a positive note the Lion's haven't dropped a game in Australian soil. I think that's testament to the overall quality of the squad.

Another iffy performance, I think.

Yes it’s a win, but I had hoped to see more cohesion in the ranks by now.

So if Kinghorn is out what happens? You can't play the rest of the series with Keenan and M Smith.
