Was watching the Scarlets v Treviso game last night and Ben Morgan got man of the match, made about 11 carries and looked impressive off the back of the scrum.

The BBC mentioned a comparison to Scott Quinnell at the beginning of the month which after last nights performance (albeit against Treviso) i would agree with, also he would qualify for Wales in 2012 if he chooses.

Any thoughts?

Seriously impressive player. What makes him special is his pace off the mark coupled with his bulk and his great ball carrying position, which means he almost always get's over the gain line. Off the back of the scrum, he's simply too fast for opposition back-rows, meaning he's always running at the heart of the opposition three quarter line. He's got some nice subtle hands aswell to go along with his carrying prowess. If England don't go for him, then there's something seriously wrong, which means I'm not hugely convinced that he'll end up playing for Wales. I'm living in hope though, becuause he's the best young 8 I've seen for quite some time. Saying that, being a couple of years younger, Faletau aint far behind, just a little more raw at the moment.

I thought Ben Morgan was English no? Hes just lived in Wales for two years. Surely we should be comparing him to Martin Corry or Nick Easter?

Morgan is English, went to university in Cardiff. Played club rugby for Merthyr Tydfil RFC and then was with the Blues Academy, then the Scarlets saw his promise and signed him. If Waldrom goes on to play for England then I do have a suspicion that Morgan might opt for Wales. Time is ticking for Morgan to make the decision at somepoint in the near future.

Such a shame 606 is closing down. A saga about an Englshman playing for Wales would be hilarious on there.

Ben Morgan - "As far as [international rugby goes] I would be flattered to play for either nation, but for the time being I'm just focussing on regional rugby,"

Which leaves it pretty open, i think if Wales call him up when he's eligible i think he might be tempted.

I can't see him getting picked for England any time soon, as we have a fair few back rowers already in England sights (from Saxons and called-up-to-the-squad-but-not-used appearances)
Then again Wales have got a few young backrowers coming through as well, and he'll have to get past Jones, Powell, Thomas and Faletau to get the 8 shirt and a fair few more names in competition for the backrow bench spot

I would put my money on him playing for Wales ..England have two teams that he would have to break through to be getting international rugby.. and having spent so long in Wales and without them having an "A" squad and of course with wales often having to resort to Andy Powell in the backrow :p I expect him to take a Welsh call up if it is offered

I think its a done deal isnt it? You'd imagine Gatland would be crying out for a new 8 (or at least another option there).

I'd give the guy a game and see what he can do.

Would Gatland entertain any new players this close to the world cup?

Morgan is not qualified till after the World Cup so we shall see when the times comes.
