Dragons flanker Joe Bearman has joined the Ospreys after signing a two-year deal with the Welsh club.

Bearman has put pen to paper on a contract that will keep him at the region until the end of the 2012/13 season.

Capable of playing at blindside or number eight, Bearman joins the Ospreys after five years at the Dragons, where he has scored seven tries in 72 appearances prior to their game against Leinster over the weekend.

A huge favourite at Rodney Parade, he has a reputation as a powerful ball carrier and strong runner.

"I'm really looking forward to linking up with the Ospreys, this is an excellent opportunity for me to play top level rugby that I couldn't turn down," said Bearman.

"I've enjoyed five good years at the Dragons, but I felt that the time was right for a new challenge and a change of environment.

"There were four or five really good offers on the table but it was the Ospreys who really impressed me."

Good signing for the Hairsprays. Was impressive enough against Leinster last night.

Got mixed feeling over this. He is 32 and for me is possibly standing in the way of some of the young guns that are at the Ospreys. He will get loads of gametime during the World Cup period and I presume that is a major attracting point for Bearman. However the likes of Tom Smith, Tupiric, Morgan Allen, Ben Lewis etc might feel a bit aggrieved with the signing considering Stowers has signed and he is no spring chicken. Then again come World Cup time they are likely to get game time because the majority of the Ospreys back row will be at the World Cup.

Too late for Bearman to stake a claim for a place at the World Cup?

Probably. Look at what Wales have there now.

Lydiate
Warburton
Jones

Thomas
McCusker
Turnbull
Faletau
Powell
Williams

Pretty big list if you ask me. If there are a few injuries then they may look at Bearman.

Incidentally, how has Faletau not been capped by Wales yet? Most dynamic Welsh loosey Ive seen for a while.

He was in the AI squad ... well called up to it against Australia and remained there for rest of the AI's. Should have been capped against Fiji to see what he was all about. You won't know what he's like until he used. Then he was selected in the 6 Nations squad but unfortunately he was injured so dropped out and never came back into the frame.

Personally he's better than Powell and offers something different to Jones at 8. Still believe he will get capped in the Summer to show how good he is.

He should be going to the WC if you ask me. Was very impressed. A good carrier with a decent set of hands.

Doesn't look like Morgan Allen will get gametime anytime soon which is a travesty as he's got bags of potential, very similar to Ben Morgan at the Scarlets, and look what's happened there with gametime! On that note, we could be adding Ben Morgan and Andreus Pretorius to the list of backrowers available to Wales soon (aren't both ellegible in around 6months). Both have been immense for the Scarlets and Blues recently, so here's hoping.

I hope Faletau goes to the WC, better than Powell and Jon Thomas!

Took the words out of my mouth. At least he's welsh....

is he saes but has a grandparent who lived in wales and her neighbour was welsh??? That kind of bull poop??? lol

Yeah, good prospect but I don't think he will end up as an 8. He doesn't have the size required by an international 8 (yet) and could be shifted to openside at Newport to so Lewis Evans can play at 8.

Honestly, I am disappointed, considering how we stuck with Joe through all of his injuries, but I would imagine that this will free up a bit when we need a signing. That's professionalism though.

@TVH, well... Cornwall...

Lets just say that he's as Welsh as Riki Flutey is English :p

I do believe Joe did say that as he is Cornish, he would not want to represent England, and would rather play for Wales, IIRC.
Would have been selected for the '09 North American tour if he was eligible (missed by a few weeks).
