Barbarians Name 5 for Lions on 1 June + News

Tindall looks a bit out of his depth alongside the calibre of players called up for this.

This could be a tricky opener for the Lions. They have been rusty in their opening fixture last few tours (notably drawing to a weakened Argentina side in 2005), and now they're up against a team with players like Parisse, Fotuali'i, Evans and Fourie all of whom will be better than whoever the Lions have as their opposite numbers. That 8-9-10 trio the Baabaas have got would walk into the Lions side for sure.

I'd have Sexton and Evans roughly on a par, but you're spot on on the other two.

As for it being a tricky opener, well that goes without saying. The Lions usually play poorly on their first game. Lack of cohesiveness, all that jazz. The thing about playing a barbarians side is that they should be suffering from the exact same problems.

Should be a fascinating tie.

I have nothing but respect for people that create their own youtube channel to opload highlights videos of themselves. Sounds like something James Haskell would do.

In fairness a lot do that as a way for teams to see them so they can get contracts.

Some of those players at the mo are pure speculation

The back row and half backs in particular look impressive.

I'd expect a specialist fullback to come in at some point, at which stage I'd move Hook into 12 instead of Tindall.

Quite a squad they're assembling, should be a cracker of a match.

Wade will be with England... where are you getting that rumor from?

Yeah, can't see Wade being named - England play the Baabaas the week before, the South American XV that week then Argentina the week after. He's definitely going to be named in the EPS, and I can't imagine him turning it down for the Baabaas.

Going to be an immense Barbarians side - reckon they might take the Lions to the cleaners.

England have a game less that 24hrs after the Lions game, so either Wade has turned down/been told he's not going, or the rumor is completely false.
He could of course have provisionally said yes in the case that England don't pick him, but that's not gonna happen, is it?*

*If it does I can guarantee that people will be calling for Lancaster's head.

There's a chance Lancaster won't pick Wade. After all he doesn't seem to fit into the style of wing he's a fan of. And going by previous selection evidence and a pretty large group of wingers available it is plausible that Lancaster won't take. After all this season he has played Ashton, Brown, Strettle, Sharples, Monye, Foden (in SA) all ahead of him at wing, whilst Biggs was called up ahead to join the squad once as well.

Like I said, there would be calls for his head if he didn't pick him, and quite rightly.
You know how our media works, so does he...
I do not think he will ignore the public pressure to select him, even if he doesn't put him in the 23.

Thing is though England have lost nobody from back 3 to the Lions so who'd you take out like will Lancaster change from 6Nations

He took Wade to South Africa though, didn't play him in the tests as you said, but I wouldn't have played him in the tests to behonest, and don't forget the EPS limits movements in/out of the squad, and Lancaster was pretty set on Goode/Brown/Ashton as his set for 6N.
Do agree that Lancaster seems to prefer bigger wingers(/fullbacks), but he'd have to be mad not to take him along, especially as it's going to be EPS + extras, as it's a touring squad.
