vB Aviva Premiership: Saracens vs Wasps (03/09/2011 16:30)

vBookie for this match now added!

I'm liking the look of Wasps backs now

Southwell ain't the best, but I'm looking forward to seeing Bell/Flutey play together, Bell refound form in the 2nd half of last season and looked really good
Robinson is a good addition to Wasps as well

The Sarries team is out, but I stupidly closed that window. It should probably rape the pests though.

Is Waldouck dead?

I did not enjoy typing "Charlie Hodgson" into the Saracens column...

Waldouck tore something (something in his knee or his ankle, I can't remember which) towards the end of the season and it put him out for a looooong while (think until after Christmas)

I'm looking forward to seeing this Jonathan Poff guy we signed from the crusaders. In general though everytime a wasps coach says 'we have strengthend our back row' it means we have signed half a dozen players who were 3rd choice for their clubs and not wanted anymore. I'm not convinced Launchbury is ready for regular premiership action yet but I really hope he is, as he's up against a strong sarries backrow.

why is broster starting?! anyway, I don't imagine our backs will get much ball so there seems little point in mentioning that they look good...

Launchbury looked seriously good for the U20s. But that was at lock.

And a shame to hear that about Waldouck.

That's a very good Sarecens team. Hoping for a cracking game!

It's a shame that this match is played at the same time as the Sharks match in Pretoria... Guess I will watch Saracens later this weekend.

Very very curious to see how Sarries will do this match. I know they miss a couple of players due to the RWC. Wigglesworth might be a loss if something happens to Neil de Kock.

I just hope Barritt has a wonderful season. Last year he was close to being selected for the English national team. Let's hope this following year it will happen for him!!!

Cracking try by Wade
Good hands by Flutey and Bell to put him through

Come on Wasps!

YES! absolutely ecstatic to see us compete like that, especially against the champions. Some massive performances out there today, Poff, Launchbury, and bell to name but a few. Our backs looked lively in a way we haven't looked for about two years. robinson directed them better than walder ever did and flutey looked lively. Bell, strong and dynamic, good ball carrier. Our defense was great, aggressive, and work around the breakdown was great. Poff looks like being a great signing, and theres a good balance there with launchbury. Not sure about vunipola he makes mistakes and concedes penalties too frequently at present.

One thing I am ****** off about is that we haven't strengthened our scrum at all really in this pre-reason. Looked better when Broster came off and abit better with Castex on, but still weak. and if it hadn't been for penalties conceded at the scrum we would have won by more.

Bell and Robinson were excellent.

That said, it wasn't a particularly good Wasps performance and Sarries for all their pressure and possession couldn't convert.

Ode to be a fly on the wall for Sarries shakedown meeting on Monday.

Can we have Bell back, please?
You can have Buckley - Him and Payne would be a force to behold :p

Wasn't a particularly good showing by either team, but very happy that Wasps won :D If they can sort their scrum out they'll do well this season

I don't understand Sarries at all - they have a potentially very exciting backline but never use it. And if they do you never feel they're doing much except going through the motions and allowing the backs a bit of play-time until the forwards take it on again. Arguably that worked for them last season but they need to be more flexible. By far their biggest attacking threat yesterday was Strettle running from deep, which is saying something...

Strettle is a excellent strike runner. But that's pretty much the entire extent of his game. Goode is a poor mans Foden.

Short will become their most dangerous back sooner or later.

Not the sort of performance that wins ***les.

Wasps played very well, they did exactly what Saracens should have expected them to do... defend strongly, compete well at the breakdown, take their chances.

Saracens need to be far more ruthless if they're going to go on to bigger and better things. 2 missed kicks (Hodgson's especially was very important and straightforward). I lost count of how many knock-ons.

David Strettle, thank you for every time you make a break. Undoubtedly one of the top attacking threats in the premiership.

David Strettle, **** you for every time you make a break and fail to get a pass away to your support runners. You could have created at least 2 tries yesterday for someone else to finish off if you looked around a bit more.

Goode + Joubert... got to finish them.

Wasps ****ed our lineout as well, a traditionally strong area for us vs a weak area for them. Poor.

Work to be done, and less bombs please Owen Farrell.
