Anscombe Leaves Ulster

What the ****?

So in one season we've lost Humphries, Anscombe, Ravenhill name, and 3 key players. Wow.

Perennial drunk with poor relationship with players is chucked - halfway decent coach installed.

Winner winner chicken dinner

Honestly dont know what the fuss about that is in all honesty, will still be known to most if not ass as Ravenhil, only will be known as Kingspan in the media, a small price to pay for the financial backing we will get from it.

On the decision regarding Anscombe, surprised but not overly bothered, bar his first season in the Pro12 we have been a poor considering how well we were getting on before he came in, perhaps this means that we are looking for a hands on DOR rather than a DOR and Coach, which is the case, Anscombe wouldve probably been on his way out anyway

Big question as I mentioned a long time ago lads is finances. No province has great finances to get top class coach. Not saying this is why Anscombe is gone as it's clear with Humps gone too that there is something serious going on behind scenes. And if they aren't careful they'll undo the last 5 years of rebuilding very fast

Agree mostly, but my point was how different the club feels in one season.

Great point. It's a massive upheaval in both personnel and management in the space of a few weeks. Time for senior players like Rory Best, Roger Wilson, Ruan Pienaar and Jared Payne to step up an make sure things don't fall apart.

I don't fear Best will leave or Wilson but Payne certainly won't stay if this goes on much more he will turn Blue.
The next step is vital and stability must be the key not short term fixes

Probably for the better.

I'm not saying this is an ideal situation, but Anscombe was perfectly capable of undoing the last 5 years on his own account, and Humph was the guy willing to wait out that year rather than risk another McGlock style PR debacle (or so I suspect).

Not being knee-jerk here - I've been expressing major doubts about Anscombe for the last six months and they've only intensified for all the leaks about his behaviour. Sure, Ulster could go and get it even worse... but that would not be as easy as all that. Bringing Kiss in to hold the ship together and have a look at things while considering the next move should hopefully let us avoid that, although I'm not completely confident.

I'm not so sure Kiss coming in will be as good as Ulster think especially in a RWC year. He has to attend every camp and also has to do briefings for all 4 provinces so his workload is heavy enough and I'm sure Schmidt will be conscious that after Plumtree going there can't be anymore distractions. So I think there may be a panic appointment at a bargain price. A Bradley Doak combo maybe in the works

Better than Anscombe - and better than Bradley too, you big troll you.

Gareth Anscombe has been on calling Ulster clowns for letting him go, not sure what basis they are clowns, he didn't really get us further than anyone else did and it at the end of the day, I felt that it was going to happen eventually especially when humph stepped down

I'm not saying Kiss bad more so his main role is with Ireland and he's only filling gap here but I can't see him stay too long. (Unless he steps away from Ireland). And if we think of realistic options it'll be between Ruddock, Brian McL and Bradley or maybe Elwood

Jake White and Graham Henry are the names being bandied about at the minute.

50pc of Kiss > 100pc of Anscombe. Or Bradley.

And yes, it's considered quite normal when an interim appointment doesn't stay too long.

Many of the rumours, if true, are distasteful at best.

From what I hear, it was the senior players that approached the CEO and asked him to remove the head coach.

I have to stress, all of this is based on rumour though... and I am very uncomfortable having a go at someone based on rumour alone. Although the facts would appear to align with the rumours.

What I'd add is it is very worrying in any team if players get too much power. Now if rumours are true then I'd say ok with some reason but in general the top brass can't give players too much power.

And Peat I'm stating as I think your missing my point. Kiss is a fine coach but the longer he's there the worst it could get for many reasons. 1 is the top man of Ulster, Leinster or Munster need to be giving it 100% with no distraction. 2 is if Kiss goes in Oct for a new man then it'd mean learning all new plays/systems etc mid season which could be bad. Ulster I've admired hugely for the way they've rebuilt over the past few years but are now at a crossroads and the next few decisions are very key. They've built up a superb flow, of underage talent and I don't want to see that undone.
