Aaaaaarrrrrrggg Uni!!!!

Well this makes me feel bad as I finished my exams over a week ago now (not) :p I had a strange timetable so had about 6 exams first term then just 2 in the 2nd, plus I'm only 2nd year so most of the work has barely started yet. Still got over a year to worry about my dissertation too since I'm off to study abroad in Germany for a year :D though cant see that I've past one module I had on Viennese literature... I hate studying literature at the best of times,, but my god Vienna can go **** itself... which it kinda does considering the amount of bonking that popped up in these books.

My condolences go out to everyone still working. I don't do exams (not that many in archaeology) but I did recently finish a dissertation on Roman roads and another on drains and sewers.

Finished my first year at uni last friday done all the work in for the next week or so before my exams too so am "off" now working soon (i hope) till october, when law stuff starts again along with finally getting hands on experience with stuff like FTK and EnCase :D

As for lecturers most of mine so far have been good besides one, hes ok and all, knows what he's talking about but is a bit cocky tbf apart from that tis all good :)

Good luck with the work btw :)

I'm not sure if anyone else has done an architecture course, but basically roughly 4-5 times a year you've got to visually present your work (printed and pinned to a wall), and stand up in front of the rest of your studio group, and 2-3 tutors, and verbally present your project. Mine usually go relatively well, despite never actually getting any sleep the night before (and only a couple of hours the night before that), or having anything to eat (you begin shaking normally, and start to feel a little like being tipsy). The tutors then comment on your work and give you some critical feedback. Well there's one tutor that's a complete c**t who regularly makes people cry during their 'crit', especially girls.

My MA tutor reckoned dissertations on sewer systems were the best idea as you could guarantee a clear shot at the field. Was he actually right?

Depends what you mean by 'field'. If you mean actually getting out there and looking at them, then perhaps yes, but you'd have to travel an awful lot to see any which could be used. If you mean discussing it well then that's another possibility as there isn't much out there on this topic really, depending on your angle of attack.

One good thing about no exams if that around this time of year (when people have exams) I can go and dig up a 'possible' camp of Julius Caesar in 20 degrees weather (in kent). Lovely weather; score.

I have a feeling that cyRil did that same degree you did, Gavin.

Hopefully as we speak a (very blurry eyed and zombie-like) Dull is watching the printer spit out his dissertation!

The latter; there's nothing worse than going for a dissertation topic where everything's been said. I'm guessing its different for archaeology students (which you seem to be)

And Dull's got another two hours he could be working on this! Polish it until it shines!

I just finished an exam now... But I study through the post, so I don't have lectures... Still deciding whether it's a good or bad thing...

Ah pretty much all my work so far (Doing Computer & Digital forensics) has been technical or lab reports or practical work in the case of crime scene examination (pretty fun tbh includes fingerprinting etc).. OH and exams ofc, 3 this year ~4 next year and i think its 2-3 final year.
T
he lecturers "attached" to my course are really nice to get along with etc but one for the data and physical analysis (aka maths and physics) lecturer in lectures just has the demeanor that he thinks he's better than everyone and attempts to show off doing formulas in his head etc When I had a chat with him about past work and exam prep he seemed ok so aint all bad.. All it did though was make people dislike the module and not attend at the start of the year there was around 150 odd in the lecture the towards the end (bar revision ones) there was about 50-60 tops

For the moment I say hate that. When/if I go to college I'll be terrible for deadlines can't do any work unless it's the night before.

Holy ****. That was too close for comfort, literally got it in on the deadline at 12. Unfortunately it wasn't great I'm afrait. Came in at just 6,000 words for the main bulk of the dissertation, 2,000 short (1,000 of the minimum allowed), so that should drop me some marks straight away. It was missing about 5 entries from the bibliography (only internet sources such as news sites, for small things), hopefully they don't notice that! Then my conclusion was utter gash. Ran out of time, so my conclusion just cuts short and doesn't really say anything.

It might scrape a pass if I'm lucky, if it fails I'll get to re-work it, but that will mean I won't be able to get a distinction next year, which is unlikely anyway judging by how much I struggled this year.

Happy it's over, but now I've got the next deadline to reach.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu.....

Well, you've finished it Dull. Hope it goes well for you, I bet it feels good to have it over with.
After my busy week I did absolutely nothing on the Friday, except for sit around and watch some rugby. It was glorious.
Get some sleep, just set the alarm for the Ospreys.

Can't sleep too much. Got another 4 days of hell in front of me.

Wait until you have to work for a living.......

Honestly, work doesn't come close to this. I'm literally sat in front of my computer for 14-17 hours straight every day, only stopping for 30min to eat lunch and maybe an hour for dinner. I tend to work better late at night, so my sleeping patters is a mess, getting up at mid-day, but not going to bed until 4-5am in the morning, if not closer to 7am if I can stay awake. I've pretty much done this solidly since the beginning of the year, including over christmas etc. My christmas day consisted of reading a book for the dissertation I did. Didn't stop for Easter at all. My birthday this year consisted of a 'crit' in uni where I didn't have any sleep, followed by catching up on missed sleep in the evening. On average I've had to do about 4 all nighters per-month just to get work finished for studio, or interim hand-ins etc.

I'm not looking forward to having to find a job in the current climate, but a 9-5 job will feel like a piece of cake in comparison to this. Remember that I worked in an architect practice for 4 years before going to uni.

How much longer until this term is up for you, Dull?
You've got us to keep you sane, don't worry.

Tuesday. If anything fails, I'll have four weeks to bring it up to scratch. Not failed anything before, but not sure about that dissertation.

One more year then, which is meant to be worse speaking to the current 6th years. At least there won't be another dissertation.

I was in the same position as yourself two weeks ago today, sucks bumz :( :( Its the prep for the binding got me, meant I had to get everything done at least 48 hours in advance. Thanksfully that went well, along with my VIVA that I successfully did on Monday. So now I am awaiting graduation on July 14th, so I have began my job hunt.

Sucks atm due to only realistic jobs around Cardiff are Bars and Call centers. CV's have gone everywhere, so atm I am awaiting replies while watching Eurovision :( :( :(

Hope all goes well for all doing End of year exams and dissertations and all that :D :D :D
