I wouldn't 'back' Isis, but I do think it is getting to a stage where there needs to be a United Nations (global) intervention in the region. What that looks like and how it plays out should obviously be determined by people with the necessary expertise. The refugee numbers are becoming unsustainable; I thought I read that Turkey alone had spent (or possibly projected it would spend) $6 billion on the matter. I can't foresee that getting better. Over 6 thousand woman have been raped. Since 2011 at least 9 intentional mass-scale killings occurred in one year alone.

It's time to do something about this, because they've had their way for far too long. At what point do we help? Isis won't be going away for awhile. Should it be the point where we realize that some Syrian victims have had their eyes removed? The point where some bodies show signs of strangulation and electrocution?

Humanitarian law violations are occurring because they do not fear being held accountable for their actions. I'm not saying it'll be without cost and will come with ease, but that needs to change.

Yeah I get all that but if you are going to enforce a peace it must come from the surrounding arab nations. The UN is toothless and has a terrible recored at confict resolution.

Well that we can agree on! Some of the Arab nations in the region have done appallingly little.

Well Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey have done plenty in terms of taking in refugees but as you said there needs to be an inforced end to the conflict and I cannot see anyone wanting to get their hands dirty

WHo the **** are you? This is an open forum and that is what I think. Shall I check in with you next time? Yeah right

You seem to have no problem lecturing others on what the "decent" thing to do is. I'm just turning the tables back on you and you don't like it. ;)

Londoners were not told in the 50's that in a lifetime they would be a minority.

I'm not sure what that means. It's a risky question, but do you mean white Londoners? People proficient at rhyming slang and fond of jellied eels? I mean, really, wtf does that even mean?

As for solutions, and we need desperately to come up with some at least short term, Nicola Sturgeon has pledged Scotland to take 10% of refugees if Cameron will commit the UK to taking 10,000. Seems reasonable to me, and it's 10,000 more people out of harm's way.

We're told different things every year. Londoners were not told in the 50's that in a lifetime they would be a minority. Nope, they just keep coming and the more numbers that come, the more we're expected to take. The numbers are shocking.
Refugees make up 0.18% of our population. Less than one person in every 500... hardly excessive.

It is to bloody many and the figure you quoted is only the ones we no about there are probably twice that number and it keeps on growing, we are running out of space on these small islands, trust Sturgeon to open her mouth, she'll take 10% will she I'll tell you what we in England and Wales will take 10% and let the mouthy one find some sparsely populated part of the highlands to disperse the so called refugees/economic migrants

Do people genuinely think Crobyn could be PM? I can't see it the student and left wing supporters he has are already the ones voting (he would get some of the green votes back) but would he attract any of the voters who change to UKIP?

I guess he biggest shot would be to try and put pressure on the SNP.

I think that he really does have a chance as his mealy mouthed supporters have the will and impetus to participate! Compare this to the government support which is quite a low percentage of those entitled to vote due to apathy!

There is an underbelly of dissatisfaction at the so called austerity (although there has really not been very much of that) and anger at the perceived indifference of the Government's inaction on things like the great "refugee problem"....in reality a mainly economic migration!!

Time is the biggest advantage to Cameron as Corbyn will probably be found out over his so far unexplained policies and how to fund them.......to date they seem to be just sound bites and his support based mainly on him being the perceived underdog and a return to the perceived golden days of yore!!

Remember in the 80's all the trade union mass rallies in London, Used to get 1000's of people with the will and impetus to participate but it never quite transfered mass rallies into mass voter support.

Things like the refugee problem might mean a lot to a student in Oxford but knob all to a van driver in Doncaster.

So pleased that Corbyn has been voted leader. The minute he started thanking the unions, the RMT, in particular and linking the Labour party back to the Unions, he lost the vote of most sane people in England and ensured Labour won't return to power for at least the next 10 years.

I am not so sure although I do hope so!!

There is no doubt that he now provides what has been missing in the UK political scene and that is a choice!

I think already there are words like "consensus" being bandied and it may well be that the leopard may not lose his spots but they may become very much less prominent!

I listened to his acceptance speech and, although pretty cynical as to the content, had to admire his presence and presentation!!

I hope the Tories do not just try and belittle him but treat him as an equal as, if not, they will turn the voters more in his favour than against!!
