They won because the general public blamed Labor for a global financial crisis that wasn't really their fault, then when the economy recovered they were deemed to be doing and okay ish job so we're kept in. People in fear of an SNP alliance with Labor thought England would have to pay huge amounts into Scotland so voted anti-that.
Plus most people are naturally selfish buggers and think they'll all be rich someday if their boat comes in so vote based on that.
