A Political Thread pt. 2

This is the whole "America First" regime though. Even if it does lead to a recession they don't care.

It needs to fail and fail badly but then it'll bring the rest of the world with them.
Well, you're already in a recession. So, I guess you will sink deeper until a deal is made?

Yep still not in a recession. Negative growth over a certain period.

Good luck paying more for everything from the rest of the world.

Great American companies like Ford, Fender, Gibson etc will be charging Americans more now.
You certainly are.

And that's okay. Western Europe still hadn't recovered from COVID and China is facing a property bubble.

Well we're not. Growing painfully slow at 0.1% but that is not technically a recession.

Plus, we've already blown growth with Brexit. What do we really need from America - certainly not your bleached chicken!

Tariffs that high on Vietnam seems crazy given how the US has been trying to have good relations with them since the war to stop them getting too close to China
They couldn't win a shooting war with them so I'm not convinced they'll win a trade one

Lots of American companies moved production to Indonesia etc as it was cheaper than doing it in the US. Self sabotage at it's finest. It'll take years and cost billions for US firms to switch back to the US made ethos

I doubt it would work. Like in the UK, the production costs would be huge in comparison and people just won't pay it. I do think this is a problem with globalisation, but I don't think trump's approach will work.
