A Political Thread pt. 2

Taken together, the measures mean that, over the next 12 months, anyone earning less than about £34,000 a year will pay less in National Insurance than they did the previous year, while those earning more will see their payments rise.
I wasn't aware of that tbh - I thought everyone was getting bent over regardless

Yeah we sort of covered in the Sprint statement your getting absolutely bent over in the cost of living crisis but he's given you back £12.50 a month. Its a complete waste of time exercise that just lessens the treasuries coffers.

The NI hike was also of little impact to low earners and a bigger deal is being made because it was a manifesto pledge to not touch it. Also being applied to everyone than targeting higher earners.

Yeh NIC is a weird tax. 13.25% for those earning below c.50k, then drops to 3.25% for those earning above. And that's for employees. of course next tax year it reverts back and the 1.25% social care levy will show separately on peeps' pay packets.

Wasn't there another tax change that meant even though people pay less NI, it's less of cut for taxes altogether?

NIC should be scrapped the thresholds coincide with Income Tax about, so it makes the 40% tax rate on those earning over 50k look better than it is when in reality its about 32% once the NI drop comes in.

But it allows the government to say those who earn over 50k pay double income tax.

Well the change was they won't align the threshold for NIC to personal allowance until July. So those earning around £10k per year now will this increased NI for 3 months.

The issue is social security comes under completely different legislation to income tax. Also pensioners don't pay NIC. Hence why they delayed the separation until of social care levy and NIC until next tax year.

But yes the effective income tax and NI rates are 33.25%/43.25%/48.25% after personal allowance. So ignore Rishi when he bangs on about cutting 1p for basic rate earners, as he's just hiked up NI so basically returning them back to before but 0.25% higher.

Employers are screwing because it's just become a hell of a lot more expensive to employ peeps.

Good explanation here.

You are not paying 1.25% more, but over 10% more. The 1.25 is the increase in the rate. Also most people will be paying more for at least 3 months until the threshold changes kick in. Then after that you have fuel bills going up in October. None of that includes other cost or price increases to every day life.

There was also the change in fuel duty, but that just means people paying less than they are now, not paying less than they were even a few months ago. Even with the change Sunak is still getting more taxes from fuel because of the price increase.

I know these guys are ***** rather than news people but man, what does it say that people thought this type of thing could gain widespread support?! The second half of this, where he is trying to appear approachable and intelligent by accepting his mistake, is what everyone was saying about Putin 24hrs into his invasion.

The first half is him saying how he massively respected a murderous egomaniac for common bully tactics not out of place in a primary school playground.

Is that the quality of GBNews? I think the only other clip I saw was the guy who got fired for saying something controversial (can't actually remember the details now) despite GBNews claiming they are a free speech platform.

Honestly, even if I ignore the amateur camera work (it looks like someone recording on their phone) it was honestly just crap. Never heard of Patrick Christys, but honestly that was pathetic. Trying to make out that you've realised your mistake (only now into the invasion) after basically sucking his dick for the first half. So what did you support Russia's invasion of Ukraine before this?

What is worrying personally though is that he admires/admired Putin for saw many bad traits. Reality is though many people feel similar. For some reason as a species we do admire traits that are actually very negative. Just look at films or tv shows that make criminals the hero as though they are fighting some noble fight or they are the good guys. No, they are criminals. Why to we glorifying and promote behaviour and traits that are actually wrong? No wonder humans have a messed up moral compass when you see **** like this.

Put simply some people admire Power and those with it. Who knows why because some peeps feel powerlessness in their own lives?

And yes you're right about why some peeps in the west admire it. I question myself - like one of my all time favourite films is the Godfather. Putin has been likened to the Godfather, but with Nuclear Weapons. But Vito has compassion right? But still uses violence to justify his means. But then we see the consequences with his son and that Power ultimately corrupts.

I've always been wary about him since he opposed the firebreak lockdown back in October 2020.

Now he'll be forever on a list of nearly PMs just 3 months ago he was probably just a press conference away from the big job.

Something to do with accepting that taking a knee is an acceptable thing to do wasn't it?
So to prove that they disapprove of cancel cultrure, they cancelled him.

Once again the Tories equate legal with moral. Just because it's legal doesn't make it moral. In fact most of those tax exemption rules purely benefit the very wealthy.

Never forget - they're also the reason for Brexit (well, that and weakening the EU and NATO, but closing tax loopholes was the domestic reason)
