A great big Munster thread

Its pretty obvious how it appears to those that don't know the details.

Everyone knows Dougie has been doing nothing on the coaching side with Munster for years.

But, having 3 guys depart, two of them in the proper-ligind status while the perception is Radge and POC don't want to come in for whatever reasons... Does all that have any effect on (unknowledgeable) sponsors/players/fans decisions? Probably not. But hard to say that definitively.
But equally anyone who know absolutely the bare about Munster knows.
1. Douggie is leaving since long long long before anything. And was never a coach. In fact he even took step back from the role and was working a bit with Cork.GAA too.

2. POC does not really want to.coach here or anywhere. He doesn't have a real passion for it. And part of trying Stade was he had an ambition to sample France which dates back to Toulon time.

3. ROG has said many many times he only wants to return to Munster when he is ready and can be a head coach. Majority in Munster think he will never coach a province as he wants international gig.

4. Felix gets slayed for Munster backline. Then when a change is made it's called toxic.

5. Jerry Flannery had personal and alternative reasons for leaving.

I can assure you there is nothing toxic and all you have to do is walk UL to see that.
On Sponsors/Fans/Players.

Our sponsorship income is the highest it has been since 2009.
Our season tickets are near maximum and I believe a waiting list was in operation.
And players seem eager to sign on as can be seen with lads like Tadgh Beirne and Joey committing and more expected on next few weeks to be announced.

This set of players is 1 of closest knit bunches I've seen in all my time working here.

And as I said there is no perception on ROG as he has been clear and vocal. Add in his family base is Paris not Munster. Paulie still does help with academy but coaching doesn't seem to be his passion.
Again it's a media spin and well we aren't alone. Look at how Cullen how to come out on Sexton issue the weekend. Yet people still will believe JS10 was dropped and disciplined were 2 I heard. And obviously the lies spread work on many

Doug Howlett leaving is only a story because of who he is. If it was another member of the commercial team leaving, nobody would care.

It's obvious to anyone that pays attention that Sexton wasn't dropped and that Munster aren't in a crisis (off the pitch anyway). Won't stop the the most read newspaper (if you're charitable enough to call the indo rag a newspaper) and other similar outlets spinning them like that.

Exactly this and any sports man just had to look back to last years fixture to see same thing happened. Just because Leinster lost Europe doesn't mean they can't still rotate.
And I just can't see how they even imagined Sexton was dropped. There was a rumour he was concussed. That wasn't true as I can guarantee IRFU wouldn't allow risk. Simply put he suffered physically the week before and a fresher man was better option.

On Howlett. @snoopy snoopy dog dog hit it perfect. It's a story because of who Doug is. But he is leaving on his own terms for reasons I'm sure anyone can relate to.

But again it's not firat time I've said it. Sports journalism is gone to pot here in Ireland. Murray Kinsella, Gerry Thornley and at times just Paul Wallace are only 3 decent guys. Quinlan is superb too but is more a reflection on how guys prepare mentally etc not an in depth guy. In fact Kinsella is the only guy who really backs up his comments with good analysis and is no way bias

Kinsella is head and shoulders above the rest. By far the most insight, no bias he's got it all. If there's any justice in the world he'll get a front and center TV punditry gig soon (he was on Virgin Media's highlights show during the Six Nations). After that Thornley is the best but he's a bit of a Leinster fanboy ( and that's coming from me). He's very much in the IRFU camp these days as well in that he's their No.1 guy and he toes the party line in case he loses that. Still a good journalist but he was more willing to call people out 19 years ago (that's how I see it anyway). The rest are a combination of wafflers and sensationalists, Ruadhri O'Connor being the epitomy of both.

100% agree with all that. And Thornley is a Leinster fanboy but he is fair on his analysis I feel with other provinces.

As well as that it's worth saying that Ross had completely earned that start and was fully deserving of that chance. And it worked for both players, Sexton came off the bench with a point to prove and played really well. There's no point having two 10s who are comfortable at this level if you're not going to play them both over a three week period of massive games. But no journo said that. Instead it was 'SHOCK as Leo Cullen leaves SEXTON on the bench'

Well more a question. What is better a 50% Sexton or 100% Byrne?

Squad management is a strength of Leinster but as I said when lads write based on intent to create stories and not what is happening things can get twisted

Murray Kinsella is the best analyst, Gerry Thornley the best writer on rugby, Peter O'Reilly and Brendan Fanning get the best information. None of which is Munster related.

Trying to make it Munster related, would Murray Kinsella add value to Munster as a video analyst? He's clearly gifted at breaking down teams structures and comes from a playing background within the Munster academy.

He was involved before but broke away. He likes the freedom to follow his own interests and he travels a bit now too. A lovely guy and would add value to any team but he is not interested in being with a team.
He does still help lads in video at times due to his friendships there but he's not active.

Graham Rowntree to Munster the latest rumor in the press. Would be a top appointment and would complete the triumverate of Farrell, Lanc and himself in Ireland.

From what I'm hearing on ground its a done deal. And he will be here for summer too juggling both jobs.
And the attack coach is looking tasty too. Lets just say the night is always darkest before the dawn

Larkham? That would be a great signing.

Rowntree is what Munster need but an attack coach is more important.

Don't be a tease. Give daddy a taste.
Very odd Georgia would let him take his eye off the ball at all though. Sure they'll be gone after a few games but still.

Oh his eyes are firmly on the ball. But he isn't doing down time.

Graham Rowntree would be an excellent appointment. He fits the recent IRFU profile of having lots of international experience and has worked with a lot of well regarded coaches like Ian McGeechan, Stuart Lancaster, Andy Farrell, Warren Gatland, Shaun Edwards , the legendary Robin McBryde and, eh, Rob Howley. The pack hasn't been an issue with Munster and Rowntree would keep them on the right track.

Graham son is in the Tigers academy and he still live sin Hinckley so can't imagine it would be too tough for him too juggle in the summer.

The thing is snoop technicality coaching for forwards has been a huge issue as stats back up. Down to little things like movement after contact. I was shocked at how in depth the analysis goes.
On Howley as I said I believe he is the decoy

And just what we need to be honest. A right cranky old bollix who takes no **** and doesn't roll over. And well has experience but as you say comes from a Tigers era who we based ourselves on years ago
