7 week ban for Davies

The penalty was fair. 7 or so weeks seems a bit light, but what they don't mention is that the Irish can hold grudges about spear tackles for at least half a decade...

"He coulda doid!"

Why is it that whenever a Welshman and an Irishman is on a Rugby Field, a Welshman does something stupid, gets banned and costs his team a cup???

First Warburton, now this guy...

Note to coach gatland: Teach your guys how to tackle properly!

I have a feelling you're thinking about Warburton's tip tackle against France. Other than that, brilliant...

You are very much the one who can't let anything go.

Ferrid deserves a ban then if this is the case, because he did the same, but if Ian Evans didn't put his arm out it would have looked the same.

Look im not condoning it, but i don't believe he should be banned. A simple sorry, shake heads and conference for everyone to listen to stating how he was wrong and should and will never do it again. This is a bit more pragmatic than shifting a ban.

Donnacha was asking for it anyway, as he was not entirely innocent.

This is so bloody contemptible, its is almost undeserving of a reply

Try reading this... its got some videos so that you can see what an (illegal) tip tackle looks like, and how it differs from a (legal) dump tackle

The iRB does mean to stamp the dangerous tip-tackle out of rugby altogether. The bans will get longer and longer until players learn.

Has Toby Faletau-Jones been banned and all his posts removed? I can't see any of his posts.

7 weeks is a joke. He'll be back right on time (what a coincidence!) for the H cup QF! It is an extremely dangerous, totally intentional, off the ball tip tackle fcs!

Longest ban recently was Attoub - 26 weeks, and he wouldn't have got that if he hadn't tried to claim that the photos were doctored...
Attoub got 70 weeks, pretty much ended a potential international career. He's now the 23rd player, ready to step in if a prop gets injured before the match. His ban was for a gouge on Stephen Ferris, as was Dupuy's ban of 24 weeks (kind of handicapped his international career too, leading to Parra's emergence). The same game, against the same player. I'd say both these bans were deserved, but in France we all get the impression that the citing commissioners are not as harsh as they should be with British & Irish players.

If that were the case, superprop would be in deep trouble.

I'm more of a forgived and foreget, let bygones be bygones, water under the bridge, let sleeping dogs lie kinda person.

He deleted his own posts - presumably to cut back on any backlash?

I didn't know it was possible to delete ones own posts.

Edit. Ah, I just found out how. In advanced editing mode, there's a delete post option. Could be useful.

Nicely veiled threat. I'm just saying I see you bring it up a lot and no one else mention that's just my own observation.

My bad! And yes, I remember the outroar in France, and I have to say I can't completely blame them when they wonder where the consistency is. I don't think anything as harsh as Dupuy's has been given (Attoub is a special case)

Mate, sometimes we ALL wonder about consistency!!

Any acts of spear tackling or gouging should have career crippling bans if the evidence supports the accusation. Players at every level should be so paranoid about these actions that they dont even contemplate them.

I think automatic bans are a mistake as that would have seen Ferris banned but if the powers that be look at the evidence and see it was a deliberate act (intention is a seperate and in my opinion irrelevant issue) then there should be a ban which reflects the potential serious and unnecessary risk that the player is exposing the opponent to.
