[2025 Six Nations] Scotland vs Ireland - 09/02/25

Another year another year of unfulfilled promise from the Scots. Will get up for the England game but it's time that came back too.

Scotland have struck me as a poor man's Ireland for years they're good but Ireland are pretty much better across the 23's. They don't seem to have a point of difference to trouble them whenever they play.
Mike Tyson's quote "everyone has a plan until they're punched in the face" comes to mind. Essentially this fixture for most of the last 8 years.

Ireland completely dominated the breakdown and Scotland have kept playing into that by playing wide rather than kicking or keeping it tight.

Ireland have a much better squad but the repeated failure to adapt our game against them is damning on Townsend.

Referee was fine and bending the rules as far as you can is a key skill. Ireland adapted well to his slightly weird turnover interpretation, we didn't.

Ireland deserved to win, Scotland losing 2 key players, Russell and Graham, in the first quarter was a killer blow.

The very inexperienced ref really was poor, he referreed two standards.

I only saw the last 20. Seems like it was very comfortable for us though. Will have to watch it back properly, but the commentators seem to think we didn't really reach 100%
