[2023 Six Nations] Scotland vs Wales - 11 February 2023

It's easy to say when you're carried by better players and have a top coach who knows how to win (or knew how to win). How many medals did Sergio Parisse win with Italy? Biggar wouldn't get a look in with the other home nations and he failed miserably to unlock the South African defence for the Lions last year. Russell put a Lions series win on a plate only for it to be butchered by Liam Williams. He's probably bitter because he doesn't have Finn's rugby brain and his entire playbook consists of low risk up and unders and a load of arm flapping.

You forgot he's got medals in whinging

This one is a fascinating one for me, psychologically. Wales showed promise on attack last week but were ultimately too desperate ( and could have gone direct a little more, or angled back in from the touch line, rather than consistently going lateral). That reeks of a team low in confidence. Can gatland pull them out if their rut? He couldn't when the chiefs were in one, coaching them to a 0-8 season in super rugby aotearoa. But maybe the welsh lads will respond to him better, or maybe he's learnt something from that experience. It's a purely psychological problem requiring a purely psychological fix but I don't know which way it will go.

Then there's scotland who played the worst game I've seen them play in a long while last week, du han excepted, and still got the win. That will give them confidence for sure. But will it be real confidence or fake confidence? Fake confidence and they could be complacent (it's a game they should expect to win too), or try too much and fail. They also might get excited that this could be their year. That does funny things. But if you have your doubts, sometimes you can respond by faking it; again, fake confidence. How do you tell what's going to happen here? Its hard.

Biggar is a better player than he's shown with Wales. He was really good at Saints but they play completely differently to any Gatland side.

I think what will tell again today is Wales are playing a settled, organised and balanced side. Thanks largely to Pivac's mismanagement at time where transition of an ageing team needed careful development for a WC, Wales are in a position where we are rightly trying new combinations, but against, so far, two very settled and strong teams.

I think Wales will be a lot better in the first 30 mins this week. The backrow is much stronger and will make it much more difficult for Scotland to recycle ball compared to the last game. If Scotland avoid having a psychological mare today, they should win at home by 7.

I don't understand Wales' approach in the media. I think the approach of showing respect and focusing on their own game would have been enough. You don't want Scotland fired up, they are more likely to self-implode when everyone is expecting them to win comfortably, given recent years.

I really don't see the buzz with Scotland. They are by far the most overrated team in rugby. They've never beaten a team playing well. They only win because the other team plays badly and they have some good luck.

Did Wales watch the Scotland - England game and think that England's kicking tactics worked? Scotland didn't panic last week when England kicked it into their 22. Honestly look at France and Ireland. Did either of them do a random up and under when inside the opponents half?
