2023-2024 transfers

I'm very happy with our recent Calcutta cup dominance.
Let me put it another way, when we had Riki Fluety playing I wasn't happy dispute any victories. Doesn't mean much when it's not really a proper player from that county. But guess not everyone feels the same level of national pride.

Defence has been pretty poor recently so not that upset - wonder if Forshaw is back on the market after the Boks game this weekend? Does say we're announcing someone in the coming days

I don't think you'll find many countries with huge emigration numbers complain about diaspora playing for them.

Looking at the other side of the coin, England hammered Ireland in soccer yesterday (didn't even realise it was on until my brother switched over after the Wales Aus game) with three 1st / 2nd generation Irish players in Bellingham, Kane and Gallagher starting. Rice and Grealish scored in the last match between the two also. The team has beniffitted massively from immigaration and there's nothing wrong with that. England, France, NZ and Australia benefit massively from this in rugby too.

Now that naturalisation is 5 years, the likes of Flutey won't happen again and most countries grant citizenship after this time period too.

Scotland's reliance on it and inability to bring their own talent through is a problem they face even though it's rarely mentioned. Definitely part of the reason they have never beaten NZ or South Africa and Ireland since Johnny Sexton was a boy or bridged the gap to the top 4, whoever they were, at any point.

FIFA and the IOC have requirements that all players have the country's citizenship. World Rugby along with Cricket and many other sports do not. Wouldn't be too surprised if Rugby did bring citizenship rules in as it wouldn't have a major effect.

Oh good, this one again.

As long as different countries have different criteria for granting citizenship, it won't be a factor in qualifying to play rugby for different countries.

International rugby is such a joke
If we take the international stuff out of it, this is a fantastic feel good story in rugby, not a highly touted youth player, moved to scotland to play barely proffesional rugby in the super 6 grinded for 3 years, fringe player to star player in short order and now getting a massive pay day.

Nice story, happy for the guy, not many get the pay off for hard work and taking a longer way around.
