2023-2024 transfers

More Bristol signings

George Perkins (wing) from Saracens
Ehize Ehizode (lock) from Wasps Academy
Bruce Reihana as Skills Coach from Bordeaux

Good to see we're getting in younger talent aswell as bigger names, the addition of Reihana is a good one too, always rated him as a player, perhaps one of the best 15s to play in the Permiership

Are Bristol actually going to use the champ to develop some younger players like Quins, Saints and Irish did?

We've always played academy players if theyre good enough. I don't see that changing with Lam in charge.

Really disappointed about Perkins leaving, I liked him a lot but I think he could potentially be a bot one dimensional much like Haughton and Cato in the past. But never the less all the best to him.

Guess that makes sense, lots of folks in at 8
Clifford didn't exactly stake a claim to the back row as competition though did he...

He didn't, but I don't think he got the best chance. I would like to see him get a game at 8 before he's written off for England.

Three very good acquisitions there. I'm amazed Wasps have let Ehizode go ... I've definitely seen him hyped-up as Itoje MkII so it's a surprise to see he has been allowed to leave.

Perkins is also a good player but with Williams on the way and Goode, Maitland, Earle, Ellery, Wyles and Gallagher all ahead of him for back three spots, he needed a move to progress.

A season in the Championship won't do either of them any harm.

Ehizode was hyped up by a youth hyping journalist, but he didn't make age grade England sides. Perhaps the press were getting a little over excited?

Also, Bristol aren't going to be limited by salary cap int he championship, and can probably offer him regular championship game time. Another potentially solid theory is that he's now had a gap year, and plans on going to Bristol university.

Not necessarily that surprising that a teenager wouldn't want to move to Coventry from London, given the choice...

Shaw's word doesn't mean a great deal considering how often he goes supersonic on the hyperbole. Doesn't necessarily mean he's not really good though.

Didn't rate Perkins, myself.

Ehizode has been signed to the academy, so unless we have injuries (same reason Searle played so much) he'll not feature massively for the 1st team tobegi with (probably). Expect the odd B&I Cup or Anglo Welsh (not relegated yet) games.

Yeh I'm not a fan of mr Shaw, I feel his hype has prematurely raise the price of a few youngsters.

Also his comparisons are lazy.
Like Umaga to Toomua, despite playing comepltely different style of rugby at age grade the only similarity is that they both play 10/12.

Part of me is feeling he is trying to get in potential stars good books early on which he might hope leads to him getting more stories later on etc.

Saying I have heard a lot of good things from others about Ehizode although I think he might end up as a 6.

Looks like D. Ryan to Racing is confirmed this morning.
If he goes he will be huge loss to Ireland and Munster.
Also we are now being linked with 2 NIQ locks

Potential non-transfer rumour - Lyon apparently trying to retain Carl Fearns.

According to local news, they have asked if Gloucester will let him stay.

Glocs have told them to sod off but I suspect that's not the end of the story.

In other Glocs news, we should find out if Johan Ackermann is going to accept the Head Coaching role this weekend.

If not, rumour is that Simon Easterby is next in line - be really interested to know other people's thoughts on this - his coaching record doesn't look all that to me but there's always context that others have.

Oh yeah sad to see him written off
He was just so unbelievably anonymous in the Wales game that's what I couldn't get

Gimme names kid. We have enough big lumps with no aggression on the books, they'd better be good. Also a ridiculous situation that we're replacing our IQ with an NIQ. Really disappointing how this went down, but I'm not blaming Munster or really the IRFU as it stands right now. Can't make up my mind, just ****** off.

Certainly not Munster's fault. IRFU made decision to not offer him anything so that's that. I think it's wrong decision but they made it and hopefully it doesn't effect Ireland or Munster and best of luck to Ryan.
Names. 1 is Pieter-S Du Toit. Not sure on other.
Chisholm extending by 1 year is an option too

Oh I know for sure we're not to blame. I think blaming the IRFU right now is a bit premature though. We can look in hindsight on NIQ contracts like Healy, Kearney and Bowe who probably were shortsighted, but the fact is the IRFU is trying to step away from deals like this, so while it may look inconsistent from the IRFU, it's actually a change of tactic. We are undoubtedly going to be the victims of this, and it's ****ing outrageous an Irish lock is allowed walk only for an NIQ to walk in, but still that's the way it is I guess.

Just gave Du Toit a google. Didn't realise he was the buck who plucked an intercept try against us this summer. Looks a unit, but it would sit badly if we went from providing the Irish team with tough locks for so many years to having two bocks playing there. Don't care about project players or that crap, but this is Munster. Hard locks are our trademark.

True but at Munster we will still be trying develop those type of guys and yeah we will sign NIQs. But that's professional sport I suppose and we won't really argue much as IRFU have decided this is route to go so we will get on and just work with whatever cards we get. I agree it doesn't make sense signing NIQ to replace an IQ but well that's for a higher power to assess. It's all rumours still though
