[2022 Six Nations] Scotland vs France (26/02/22)

I was almost the same. I'm not trolling, but is people rating Jonny Wilkinson as a fly-half actually a thing? He played behind possibly the most consistently dominant NH pack ever assembled and in my opinion contributed very little to England's performance in open play. I'd genuinely place him behind Finn, Biggar and possibly even Carty in open play. Genuinely not kidding here.
sucks the worst GIF
take I've seen this Six Nations, so far

As penance for my sins I sat through all this and after the first 50 seconds they did show stuff that wasn't him kicking. I'll concede he had a bit more flair with Toulon (who I never watched in my defence) than he may have been permitted in an England shirt. I'd also possibly credit him with introducing the cross kick as a weapon in the NH (I assume the ABs beat him to the tactic).

Outstanding big game temperament. Very solid defensively and an unparalleled penalty kicker. Ladies and gentlemen I present the Leigh Halfpenny of fly-halves, J Wilkinson!

I take back the Carty remark, I over-clubbed it with that. But George Ford had more spectacular highlights with Slade in one game in Buenos Aires than Wilkinson did in this video. Overall though, it's a reminder to me of how much more I enjoy the modern game / ruleset than what we had back then.

9 trophies to Wilkinson v 13 for Sexton (dismissing second rate or secondary ones like the challenge cup, powergen, triple crown and one off games) and both world player of the year once, Sexton the better Lion and marginally has the better record v NZ whereas Wilkinson has the higher international win record. Both were key players in any team they played for for most of their careers too (although Toulon continued to win without JW, Leinster went to **** without JS)

You're either massively overrating a world cup or massively underrating England's world cup winning team to dismiss this as a conversation so flippantly.
does sexton do the fun thing with his hands? No reason for this conversation to go any further

Moefan > De Villiere, but other than that no surprises in French team, assuming its injury related

Teams are out, Scottish backs unchanged from Cardiff,

Schoeman
McInally
Fagerson
Skinner
Gilchrist
Darge
Watson
Bradbury

Price
Russell
VDM
Tuipulotu
Harris
Graham
Hogg

A decent team for Scotland I reckon, excited to see the back row in action.

Can't see us dealing with the French strength up front unfortunately.

Yup. Looking forward to seeing Darge and Watson play together although it's just a shame that the French pack will likely have too much power. Matt Fagerson and particularly Ritchie are big losses. France need to have a pretty bad day at the office for us to have a chance.

Yeah, very good point on Ritchie. Only positive is that even with a few injuries we're picking a team that should be competitive

This is the hope I am clinging onto!

Matt Fagerson has been pretty solid for us so far, although Bradbury was a noticeable addition in Cardiff some hard carrying from him would be good.
Darge I know little about but from the noises on this forum he is one to watch.

Watson out with Covid, Haining in for him and Christie to the bench. Cruelly denies us a chance to see the Darge-Watson combo!

That's 5 from Scotland's first choice scrum lost to injury and illness + Redpath

Haining needs to identify the hot headed French prop with the least amount of brain cells and goad him into throwing a punch which results in a red card.

I'm really looking forward to this one. Murrayfield is not France's favourite away venue recently. I still think that what happened two years ago will be in the back of their minds. I've got a feeling that France have been waiting for this one though, they'll be up for it. Losing Watson is a massive blow to Scotland, he's a machine at the breakdown. I think France will win by 10-12 but I think the first 20 minutes will decide who wins. If Scotland start well and the crowd gets into the game France will struggle. Just think the French forwards might have too much but we'll see.
