[2021 Six Nations] Scotland vs Ireland (14/03/21)

Isn't rugby generally a posh boy sport in Ireland? Genuine question.
In Dublin, Cork and Belfast mostly. Far more of a mix in Limerick and Galway to a lesser degree, there's a lot of club sides in towns around the country too which wouldn't be posh at all and have produced Furlong and Sean O'Brien among others.

With Leinster providing the bulk of the Ireland squads at the moment the starting 23 is mostly private school boys, even most of the "tough guys" like POM went to private schools.

Literally looks like an u13s football player

This is your God?

I'm not tooting my own horn here but traditionally not so much in Munster. Was just a sport that was picked up by schools particularly in Limerick city a long time back which is how you get guys like Earls. It is increasingly being dominated by the wealthier Cork schools now though (you can see from the makeup of Munsters academy), but traditionally it was more working class. Leinster is dominated by a few private schools but they're also doing a lot better than others at bringing in country lads from the club game, which is great. Ulster is pretty posh to be fair and Connacht is a weird one because they kind of come from all over the shop

And not in Russia btw

That surprises me a lot btw, rugby is too dangerous and hard for posh boys I'd say
Posh boys ain't naturally wimps and working class lads ain't all hardcore... same goes for all aspects of life really.

Think it's worth noting our private schools, at least as far as I'm aware, aren't in the same price range as the English ones. Still posh of course but not as exclusive. My parents were both teachers and managed to send me to one.

Digressing here, because I think it's an interesting discussion but rugby is definitely getting a broader appeal here. We have clubs in every corner of the country but GAA will always be king and there's a broader issue that the players who go pro and have a clear path to the academies are from historically dominant private schools whether that be because of resources, the platform they get in senior cups and just being around really professional setups from a young age. Physical freaks like O'Brien and Furlong will always make it, but it would serve Irish rugby well for the balance of power to shift back towards the clubs a bit if we want to draw from further afield. When Munster were extremely strong the club game was in it's hayday and the Limerick clubs like Shannon were massively strong. I don't think we will see the focus go back to the club game any time soon though because the professional game has moved beyond that and potential pros are identified from 15. You will see some country guys be picked up by a Dublin school after being identified as a talented young lad.

Edit to stay on topic: Scotland can blow me. Thistle loving saps.

So your saying some one that has graduated from 'The School of Hard Knocks' is just talking ****? :p
No way... you're not Mike Jones/Williams/Davies of '02 are you... how the devil are you?

Play in Thomond or Young Munster and you'll see true definition of posh lol
UL Bohs is hit and miss.

Keith Ealrs never did private school lol and POM was on scholarship but if you want Munster posh boy it is Conor Murray you target

Cork Con is a posho club. O'Mahonys are a Con family. I sentence him guilty

Bealhan doing the captains run today. Weird given he's 4th choice.

No he won't lol.
I was being sarcastic.

Said at the start a list of Sexton, POM, Earls, maybe Murray and Healy should have been told go and enjoy provincial games.
Sexton I can say fair enough to keep as Joey eases back to his throne and Harry Byrne tries to break in to Leinster 23 for a meaningful game. And to make sure the other 2 Ross and Billy aren't left drive the ship. Bit rest no excuse. And to make it worst JGP, who is a poor international 9, has joined up with Murray. And stopping Casey. We should have viewed this year as where you take short term pain for long term gain.

But based on currwnt viewings. Earls is in decline, Lowe is not good enough for international game especially in defence so we have 2 wingers that aren't up it. Yes others will return to.fix this. But point is in alot of areas qe are plugging holes short term rather than looking long term. If Sexton plays the next 12 months as a starter we may as well forget RWC.

Equally wait and see we loose tomorrow POM is straight in again vs England and will be there for next year or 2

Hot take on Lowe but I agree otherwise
