[2021 Six Nations] Italy vs Wales (13/03/21)

All this talk about France being up for it next week after todays loss is a load of nonsense in my book. Wales are now in the driving seat to win the championship at least ,France being France todays loss could play havoc with their mindset. I genuinely do believe that we have the players to beat them next week especially if our forwards get the set pieces right.
Who knows. It goes both ways doesn't it. A wounded France might be more dangerous but they might be more deflated than angry. I was talking about this with my brother yesterday, he wanted France to win as he said he'd prefer an over confident France than a ****** off one. I disagreed with him, I think it's good that we're unbeaten and they'll have to process that loss all week. Obviously who knows whether it will benefit us or not but I don't really think it matters. It's a 50/50 game pretty much (maybe France 60/40) and I don't think that would've differed much had France won or lost today.
As always (when we ain't playing Italy... & Scotland until recently) we will be underdogs...

... but that's fine, as it always is!

Was it Alphonsi? She was on Brian Moore's podcast this week and offered zero opinions on anything, basically just waffling and then asking Brian what his opinion was.
A bit late but doesn't look like anyone knows - the female match commentator was Non Evans.

I personally found both her and Shane way ott today in their gushing over Wales.
Sure they played well and have a great chance of a slam but to hear those tso talk, you'd think Wales had proven themselves the best team on the planet.

And speaking of balance, two Welsh supporting commentators (I'm sure there's a name for them I can't think of) supporting an English commentator on a Italy/Wales game doesn't feel well balanced to me.

Absolutely right there ALJ, only trumped in the unbalanced commentary teams by three Englishmen (Ben Kay, David Flatman and Nick Mullins) in the England vs France match later that day  .

France will not lose 2 games on the run! France with a BP win.
France will be heavy favourites as was Ireland, Scotland and England... but little, rubbish, lucky Wales will trundle into town and put it all on the line for a 5th Grandslam in the modern era.

Tbh, my post was for Sir-Fon, who is permanently wound up but reckons everyone else is "biting".

I agree though, Wales will win. Grand Slam specialists.

Woah there, I never said we'd win... I never speak definitively about a future sporting contest...

We were the best team in the northern hemisphere during the WC and when we beat France next week we'll prove it again.

Easy on the whataboutism mate, where did I say that was any better?

It was pertinent to the comment, which is why I brought it up.

Do you think it a good thing? I have no idea from your response.

Do I think unbalanced commentary teams is a good thing? No

Do I think it's worth pointing out even more partisan examples of the things being discussed that are both super contextual and very topical? Yes

France, Wales, tough one, France are playing well they attack from a defensive position very quickly so the defensive line must be formed quicker to stop them or they will run riot. Wales on the other hand have been rather fortuitous with flashes of good play, but can we play an 80 min game which Pivac has eluded to. this kicking to nowhere has to stop, we will have to protect the ball far better because France with the ball are very dangerous. I'll stop now I'm off to watch Marr.

So it's a bad thing but rather than acknowledge the point because I said it about the Welsh game, you get all hissy and call me a hypocrite.

Seems you've taken it very personally so if you wanna get all uptight about some imagined inference then fair enough.
But you might want to dial down the insults.

Wouldn't say I called you a hypocrite but I definitely suggested it... and I stand by it too!

Talking to my son today said he had seen Ellis Jenkins play the weekend and looks good, if he is getting back to his best then I can see him on the lions tour

He's looking pretty good but there's already quality choices for the back row who have been playing well at test level. There's not many club games left so he's only got a handful of games before selection which is way too early for him. Let him go on Wales summer tour and build some confidence there.

It's probably too late Dai. I'm a huge fan of Ellis but without any test match rugby in almost 3 years (by the time we get to the Lions) it just won't help his chances one iota. Shame too, as he had maybe his best ever game against the Saffas in that game in which he picked up the injury. He's a phenomenal player and I really hope he manages to get a good run in the Welsh backrow before he retires.

hmm I don't know, know what you and bushy are saying but I think he might have an outside chance best openside in the country by a mile

No chance Ellis Jenkins gets picked for the Lions and rightly so. He should focus on getting selected for the Argentina tour if it goes ahead.

He's been good since coming back though. Actually, when you consider he's been out for 2 years he's been outstanding.

He is class like, not sure even Gatlands skin is thick enough for that selection though ;)
