[2017 Super Rugby] Round 11: Cheetahs vs. Highlanders (05/05/2017)

The knock on did happen and he had to call it. Now it is fortunate that the Highlanders managed to break the line so that the ref had to call them back for a Cheetahs penalty and stop the clock while a decision was being taken.

That he wanted to grant a penalty only is obviously the bad call because it lacks consistency and does not follow the standard ruling as far as high shots are concerned. However, ruling such a case when two infringements seem to cancel out is no easy stuff. So in the end, he did the right thing to at least listen to what the players and the TMO had to say.
As Caitlyn Jenner stated, every ref has an off day, or is being unexperienced to make the right call. As much as it can be frustrating, calling the ref a cheater won't help things improve in any way.

I called him biased, which all the evidence and performance suggests and I stand by it. I think you guys are arguing uphill here.

I can see why the Cheetahs get a bit of friendly stick on this forum. So much potential, but so much ability to lose from winning positions.

Does anyone recall the referees name?

@smartcooky I'd be really interested in hearing your match analysis if you have viewed the whole match. The highlights on Sky missed a lot of detail, particularly the conversation he had with the TMO regarding their yellow card.
