[2016 RBS Six Nations] Round 4: England vs. Wales (12/03/2016)

Yupp because this group of Welsh players has never achieved anything has it?

Reason there's a hype around these players is because they're proven winners, and have the silverware to show for it! Core of the team has at least two 6 Nations ***les under their belt, with a couple having three, and our oldest player has 4!

Plus these same players also formed the core of a winning Lions team, reached a World Cup Semi Final and made it out of the pool of death in another!

Not a bad CV eh?

Of course there's always gonna be bias in the "our team is mam for man better than your blah blah" spiel, but it's not totally unfounded considering this is our most successful generation of players for a very long time!

The French seem to be in permanent transition, but when are they ever consistent? At least when England go through it we are at least consistently average with the odd highlight... I'm hoping EJ and some of the players we have coming through will keep us consistently good so far as to say we are always challenging for a slam/***le, and the occasional home win against a SH team..

Actually, the odd away win to would be nice. I may be arrogant but I believe England have the strength in depth; with young players that have a much higher ceiling than current players (esp at 6,7) to make the semi's in the next world cup, and not be completely outclassed...

According to Jonathan Davies, Faletau is the best no 8 in the world.

My favourite commentor is Moore he remains unbiased most of the time and throws in some humour which does make me laugh , jiffy is alright as a bloke but acts like a overexcited school boy when Wales are attacking GO LEFT GO LEFT GO LEFT I know he's passionate but it's not a good trait when commentating he's a good bloke tho and I love to go for a pint with both of them

Aren't billy and Toby cousins? That's gonna be a difficult one I know if my cousin lined up opposite me I wouldn't want to smash him

Doubt that's the case! Two of them grew up playing rugby together, and aren't the types to shy away from a big hit. Either way, I'm sure it won't be the first time they've smashed into each other.

He's up there definitely. Read edges most other number 8's. Faletau and Vunipola are on par with each other to be honest, though have different styles of play.

As for the French, who knows what's going on there

its called developement.!!!!!!!

I thinks it's a little disrespectful that the media are calling this the tournament decider. Both teams have got tough last games , France on their day could beat England if England are not on it and Italy have beaten Wales in the past . You would have to say Italy are playing better rugby than France at this moment

I know you think he's a joke but he's gone through a lot and was a great player the first dual code superstar , he does like to coach from the commentary box though which I wish he would reign it in a bit , which ever way he shouts Wales normally go the opposite which is quite funny

may be a little disrespectful but im sure you'll agree its highly unlikely italy will beat us this time regardless of our form, and its not as if we are not playing well to begin with. italy have only even beaten us twice, both when they were at home, the last time occurring in 2007 which was not a good year for us.

Bull**** is what I'm claiming the majority of the English rugby press to be.
Is what I said; by re-editing my post shows a lack of decency and a propensity for deceit, are you even allowed to do that ?

A bite? with a simple FTFY?
Really must be that time of year; a national period.

This game is going to be won at the set piece, I think. England's line out has been outstanding and this is something that I am hoping Wales have put a lot of effort into across the week.

The scrum calls will also be big as that inevitably results in penalties and momentum to one team once dominance has been decided by the referees.

A big part of Wales' game is waves of phases. It takes three or four waves before they run JR in. I'm guessing the English breakdown game will need to be at its best to stop it.

Really looking forward to the game. I really do still question the English mentality at the moment, but we can all see the change that's happening over at HQ.

Hi all, first post on here, though I've been an interested bystander for several months.

There's a fun mix of genuinely knowledgeable rugby fans, vaguely amusing trolls and the usual one-eyed national stereotypes. Not sure which I am, probably a mix (but less of the 'knowledgeable' bit.)

This game is shaping up to be a tense, attritional cracker of a game. I doubt we will see much open high risk attacking rugby. Lots of forward work around the fringes and possible an interception or two leading to a breakaway try. Despite what they say, both teams will be nervous and will feel the pressure of what is likely to be the championship decider.

England are definitely a better unit than they were at the World Cup, though I do think they are quite combustible and we will see what their discipline is like when the pressure is really on. Jones has massively improved their set piece, which has always been one of the traditional English strengths but which seemed to go missing during the World Cup. The usual jousting about illegality has duly taken place. If England get dominance in the set piece, then I think they will likely win, they can get good front foot ball for the likes of Vunipola, who has been monstrous this year and even begin to bully Wales in the contact area. They did this for the first 60 minutes last time!

However, Wales are also much better than at the World Cup ... for a start, we have a full team playing in their correct positions. I do think that the Wales back line is different/superior to England's. Bigger, more settled and more experienced. If Wales get parity (not even dominance) in the set piece, then I think the backs could make the difference.

I've been watching Wales since the bad old days of the 1980's and we now have a team of which we can be justifiably proud, and that allows up to punch well above our weight of numbers internationally. It's pretty churlish to then complain about Warrenball. The days of amateur defences of the 1970's are gone, never to return.

England are always tough and cussed, hard to beat especially in Twickenham. Traditionally a power oriented forwards team with an excellent kicker. If I was English I would be really pleased at their efforts to evolve their game over the past decade or so.

Anyway, as a passionate Wales supporter, I will be the only red shirt in our local rugby mad Somerset pub (yes, in England!). I will be fervently praying for a glorious Wales victory ...... but my head is telling me that home advantage, the novelty of a new and respected coach and a new found English self belief might be a bit too much for us. If we were playing at home, I would have Wales as clear favourites.

I'm expecting a tense attritional and brutal game, probably so tight on the scoreboard that it's decided by the width of a penalty score or two. Let's hope for no controversy and that the better team wins ...... As long as it's us! :champion:

Your debut post was going so well until those last few words. And good to see that, like most patriotic Welshmen, you live in England. :D

But despite all that, welcome! Enjoy the forum and the match. Eng Vs Wal is always my favourite game of the year.

Nice first post , I see the set piece as being vital for Wales to succeed in this match . We need to be on top in the scrum and at the line out that's why I'm devastated Charteris is not starting the guy makes a nuisance of himself at line puts and maul defence also on a attacking front he's just the guy you need to secure that ball he should be starting for those attributes alone not to mention his decent defense , work rate and running in the loose
